Hey guys, Happy new year!
Just a quick question, I recently bought a set of aftermarket driving lights which did not come with any wiring instructions as such. I have an Advance so driving lights are not standard and therefore there is no existing wiring. Is it as simple as tapping into the parkers wiring or will that overdraw that circit (spelling?) and blow the fuse. If this is the case, does anybody know how the wiring is possible? Any help would be appreciated!
By the way, my ride is nearly complete, I am soo bloody excited. I will have some before and afters posted as soon as the driving lights are complete. :D

Hey mate,
Probs best not to wire it into your parkers, ul blow a fuse. And they'll be on all the time.
Have a read of this:
http://www.carcentral.net/content/guides/HowToInstallAuxiliaryLights.php
You'll want to get a relay for them. (any electrical store) This is safer than just going battery -> switch -> lights -> ground, as you wont have xx amps running through your little switch in the cabin (could start a fire etc)
So the switch controls the relay, the relay you can mount in the engine bay, and the relay can handle a lot more power safely and reduce the risk of a fire.
Ensure you fuse it correctly! And unplug ur ground when ur working on it. The fust must be as close as possible the battery. Say 15 inches max.
Good luck, hope it helps
Look forward to the pics, I was thinking of doing this to my Advance eventually.
Peace
Tim

The auto relay I( bought is a 30a im guessing thats 30 amp, should I fuse it with a 30 amp fuse, the diagram on the driving lights box that I got it off sais 25a fuse but that may be for another relay?
Can you shed any light on this for me? :eh:

Also, If i run the switch power from the headlight, parkers and hi-beams all running through the same wire will this be ok? so either way, parkers, headlights or hi-beam, the driving lights will be on. I know this may have some err.. legal implications, but thats what the switch will be installed for.

Best bet is to go with the recommended or lower fuse rating... Worst case if you go lower you'll blow a little 50 cent fuse. If you go too high you could damage your lights or car's electrical system.
A 25 amp will be best if thats what they've recommended.
I'd wire it up directly to the battery using the appropriate gauge, (Won't need to be too thick for 25 amps say 10 gauge or lower.)
So
battery +'ve -> <15inches of 10 gauge -> inline 25 amp fuse -> 10 gauge -> Relay
Make sure all your cables are securely mounted to the body of the car, beware of mounting on the engine itself and near any other moving parts. Use cable ties etc.
Use a ring connector to connect to the battery terminals and use heatshrink on all your connections to avoid shorting anything. (usually black rubber tubing you put over your connections then heat it up using a lighter and it will shrink around the join.

I think you'd be better off installing your switch separately to the other lights. In this way, you have total control over what lights you want on, eg just driving lights, or all your lights etc...
And it is also easier to remove the lot from your car if you want to sell it.
But upto you really

Howdy
I'm currently looking at wiring up a set as well and as I have an exec the wires aren't there.
There is a spare slot for the fog relay and fuse in the juction box and it appears that some of the internal wiring is there.
just have to check on the wire that runs to the column s/w assy and the tail light pwr feed to the relay coil.
Results so far are that pin 4 (contact) of the fog relay has a pwr feed and pin 5 (contact)has continuity thru the fuse to pwr the fog lights.
The pwr feed to the relay coil from the tail light relay doesn't appear to be connected and the other side of the coil should run to the column s/w I've yet to verify if this wire is there.
The set up from Mitsu is that the relay coil is pwrd from the tail lights and the earth is switched to turn them on and off.
Pwr for the contacts is derived from the battery and fed thru a 10Amp Fuse then on to each lamp.

Thanks for ther post mate, my advance had all that stuff in the junction box too. I just neglected to check and when I did, it was too late. I have wired them in their own circuit now and they are great, well the right one still needs to be connected up, (ran out of time) but all done, the only negative part about dollying up your own circuit is... wires everywhere! you can't hide them. But it is ok i've sorta got them all together and lecky taped them all together in a not so obvious location.
