hi, i've got a 2003 Magna TL VRX (auto), it's got one of those nice big chrome exhaust tips :) but i think it would look better (and possibly sound better as well) with a matching one on the other side as so i was wondering if 1. it's possible to split the exhaust to both sides and if 2. anyones already done it? how much it cost? etc, etc (and the bodykit alteration to let it fit as well)

i suppose while i'm at it is there any reason to change the rest of the exhaust system while it's being done or is the stock one pretty much ok?

btw. where do TL's fit in the generation forums? 3rd?

Oh and welcome!

Twin exhausts are cool

You should speak to "The Ego", he has installed a dual exhaust on his TJ VRX and modified the bumper to suit.

And yes, a TL is still a 3rd Gen magna.

Hello mate, Welcome and enjoy your stay.

I have done dual on my VRX. Took me ages to find someone to modify the lower skirt. the guy i used is no longer in business. it will cost nearly $1000 to have the bar done. My exhaustcost me $400 and i split it under the back seat and ran one out each side standard size then added the 3inch stanless tips, its not a preformance system, its just for looks...

When this dump computer works properly i will upload some pics...

There you go..

what do you mean by bar? the bodykit bit? or is it something else?

it's mostly wanted for looks, and a slightly grumblier sound but now i know it's possible i'll have a chat with the exhaust people and see if i can find a bodykit repair place.

do you have a pic of it directly from the back?

I'm by no means an expert in the field of performance exhaust science - but seeing what ego did to his car got me thinking. I do plan to upgrade my exhaust for performance purposes - including the fitment of extractors.

One of the things I've heard about extractors fitted to magnas with a custom exhaust is that when idling you can literally hear each individual cylinder pulse from the rear of the exhaust as they fire..... the concept of this excites me in ways my GF can't understand. It got me thinking how much more AWESOME would is sound if those individual pulses were alternating from one side of the car to the other - ie: - dual exhaust from the 3into1 join back!! I realise it would mean 2x cats/resonators/mufflers/custom piping so a fair bit dearer than bolt on.

Only doubt I have about such a setup is the back pressure issue - anyone got any thoughts???

I guess that would depend on what size piping you use etc..
Personally I love the idea but its very low on the list at the mo, maybe one day. :D
What I do advise is dont take it to any old muffler shop. Do some research as I've had some exhaust work done in the past which was shoking to say the least. To the point where I had to chuck a set of extractors off my old Galant and re do the lot.

The TJ VRX bar is a 4 piece bar. Its a standard TJ bar with 3 add on bits. One being the back and the other two the sides. To get a second mould done like i did cost me a shiit load to make it look like the other side, Wasnt going to do anything else other than the mould. Very happy with it and was worth every cent. Never seen it done before so i wanted it and i was the first...

Who else has twin exhausts on here. I spotted a car down nepean hwy around parkdale last night. Dark 3rd gen, with a spoiler, chrome rims and a white sticker on the back. (not an AMC sticker)
Then I saw a fire truck... And I got distracted... lol

Exhaust was the same style as icarian (not moulded through the rear bumper) And slightly bigger tips.

but i think you'll run short on space fitting two pipes up under the car... and you'ld need custom extractors too possibly as the current style cater have the rear bank integrated with the collector (have to check that though)... the saving grace though is that the twin pipes do not need to be anywhere near the 2½" of standard... twin 1.75" will carry the same, if not more than, a single 2½".... go and talk to a reputable exhaust place about it... and if they tell you that its a **** idea... say "OK, your loss, good bye!"

i have a dual exhaust on my car, set up the same way. sounds absolutely awsome. surprises a few people then the grumble they hear is coming from a magna. it sounds cool. another bonus is (living on the gold coast) it is subtle so the cops dont harrass me.

just go out and do it, well worth the outlay

Or you could go a single Stainless for some awesome grumble and sound!!

I was trying to get the first magna with a centre exhaust exit but due to the spare wheel well being to close to bumper it could only be done with some modification :chainsaw: Would have looked awesome with a twin round tip about 3" no bigger

darryl mcbeths has a twin outlet in the middle, but i doubt that still has a spare wheel well

does anyone have any companies they would recomend in sydney, preferably on the south side, for this type of work, one that won't blatantly rip you off and still do a good job?

also, how much do you think a dual exhaust (both sides) system would approx cost?

Man this is the FULLY worked car. This thing doesn't even have a V6 in it, it's got a V8. The only thing that is the same as the magna TL is the body front and back AFAIK.

Yeah, and it looks gay. It's only good to look different if it looks good at the same time.

On the topic of 3 into 1 dual pipes from extractors back. I did speak about this with an exhaust guy quite a while back. Never seriously looked into doing it, but he did actually give a quote, so obviously he thought it was possible. He quoted me around $2000  . That was for the extractors, all piping, two high flow cats and high flow muffs. I reckon that price is about spot on for what you get, but still, its a lot of money. Thinking about the sound though has not put it entirely out of mind yet

I suspect the problem with that is the pulsing would loose it's effect and it wouldn't flow as well as a typical system. Mind you, no one has headers that work with the proper firing order anyway so it's possibly a moot point.
