hey all

i cleaned my K&N pod up real good today, installed it on my sports
and wow, the sound is amazing, better then what i got from my tf !

sounds very wrx'y which i like, very very chunky it is.

only one problem, probably due to the fact that i was booting everywhere
but i noticed , fuel consumption has gone up a whole lot !

even when i was taking it easy, it rose heaps.

does this sound normal ?
any1 else had, or heard of fuel going right up when pod installed ?

cheers

reset the ecu

How do you reset the ecu?? Is there any sideeffects from doing this??

Disconnect the battery for a period, then when you reconnect it start your car and let it idle for a while (a few minutes) before going for a decent drive.

Disconnect it for a while... like an hour, if you just d/c it for a minute or two the pc still retains it's settings.

The cpu will then learn how you want to drive it over the next decent drive... So if you floor it everywhere it will realise you drive with a lead foot, and change at higher rpms etc. If you drive it slowly it will drive more economical...

That ecu learning sounds like garbage. My mum drives her TJ auto soft as hell. When i get in it, put my foot to the floor it changes at a hell hi rpm (like 5,500 or something). I really dont see what any of this learning thing is about. You get in the car, accelerate softly and it will change at a low rpm, you floor it and itll change hi. Whats there 2 learn?

Im positive it changes, you can set it through the cpu directly if you've got the toys...
on my dads the lowest his would change gear would be 2700 rpms even when crawling along, we reset it and it changed at around 2200 rpms first time

yeh ECU learning is a load of crap. everything is pre-programmed into it from factory maps and the such.

the only thing which would get wipped are the optimum shift points based on current driving use (and even thats  ) - and this is not related to engine management rather transmission. for example most cars have a switch to select b/w factory programed maps for "economy" and "power/sports" or something like that. they are just different shift points pre-programmed again from factory and the difference b/w them is only slight.

d/c the battery may reset error codes and set the ecu back to a "clean" setup but thats about it. reset it and drive hard or soft will make absoultly no difference, its in your head.
