Ok last night when i started my car it made a sreeching noise, went away but when i put the aircon on the screech noise comes back, Then when i went out again last night all night driving around when i slowed down and took off it would make a screech noise, pulled over to check it out it seems to be coming from my alternator belt
what could it be? its not so bad today, only screech for 5 seconds on start up then wont screech when im driving... is my belt on the way out? coz its only 5000km old (after my alternator was fixed) it may not be the belt tho, i cant pin point the noise just the general area its coming from
i'd say your belt needs tensioning / replacing.....

yeh, belt doesnt look worn or anyhting (thought they might have put my old belt in when they re built the alternator but chekcing the belt is in near new condition)
the belt looks a little loose when its going around but i really cant get my hand in well enough to feel what the tension is like, but it does feel loose
ill take it too mitsubishi tommorow, because this shuld have been done properly when they put the new one back in

Yep, I'd say belt tension (not tight enough) or belt wear. You hear lots of Falcons with the same problem going around corners and under acceleration...
Louder than most subs you hear going around. Definitely gets the heads snapping around!
Try tightening them up first, you said they look to be fairly new. After the Alternator I would expect them to replace the belt.

yeah as soon as u hear a screech coming from the engine bay, it's pretty much 100% a belt of some sort, if it is consistent with the air con, just check the belts around the compressor and make sure they're all tight (is there a idle pulley or anything around that area?) that could also have something to do with it.
i doubt u'd actually have to take it to mitsu, most mechanics will know what they're doing.

ok update people
mitsu ***t up
the fixing nut on my tension pully is gone, k-mart tyre and auto say that most likely it was not retightened when they put a new belt on (when my alternator died) they didnt tighten it back up when adjusting the tension, after driving on it awhile the nut has fallen off
i beleive them, who wouldnt nuts dont just 'fall off'
even got them to write a letter about it, unfortunately they didnt have a nut so will take it too mitsu to get it fixed for free
*edit* mitsu dont even kno if they have a nut for it, FFS I HATE MITSU!*edit*

sorted, they did it free of charge but then tried to tell me the nut that fell off had nothing to do with it, then when i told him how it worked he just goes "well we fixed free of charge" and gave me my keys and pointed at my car

The AC and Alternator run off seperate belts too IIRC.

no the AC pully is driven off the same belt, either way the alternator pully nor the AC pully was the problem it was the tensioner pully hence why the belt was loose when they put the new alternator in u gotta back off the nut to adust the tension, they didnt tighten the nut back up and after driving on it awhile the nut had fallen off
just didnt liek the fact that they told me it had nothing to do with the dodgy work they did before

I have that same noise on both my power steering and alternator/ac belts. Argh, i'll try and retension them first and see if it fixes the problem. So annoying, all you hear is the screeching sound which is louder then the engine noise, its quite embarrassing when i'm at the lights.
