Ralliarts use the same paper filters as any other 3rd as standard, I had a K&N panel in for a while but took it out again after experiencing wierd driveability issues. Dead spots in acceleration, and surging when cold.
But it deffinately helps top end, just the power delivery isn't very linear.

I replaced my standard panel filter for a K&N on Friday and have noticed.......no difference!
A lot of improvements from peformance mods I reckon are so small that they aren't noticable by the "seat of the pants" method. The higher flow capabilities of K&N panel and pod filters may only be of benefit in conjunction with other mods but the standard CAI and filter are more than adequate on a non modified engine.
And as AKKO said, the filter in the Ralliart is the same as on all 3rd gens.

Anyone who claims they have noticed a difference when changing from a normal filter to a KnN or equivalent is just lying to themselves, the main reason for buying a new air filter like a KnN or UNI is that its re-useable and saves you money in the long run as you don't have to buy new air filters every 6 months or so. Stock 3rd gen panel filters at about 30-40 dollars a shot can add up over a year or two depending on how much you drive, so in the end a KnN will pay for itself through savings anyway. And they do flow better then stock filters, which does help in conjunction with other breathing mods, but does SFA buy itself.
Thats me done.

When installing the K&N Panel the KJ we noticed that the gear changes were smoother.. but thats about it.. Thats a definite though.. after a good drive to the coast we could definetely notice the difference.. we put the old filter back in and drove around to see if we were right.. and right we were!! Definetely was a change in the changes!

I ain't no liar, dude! To my self or to anyone else. Matter is - does it make a diff with that particular engine and can that driver tell the difference.
I definately discovered the 3.0 revving better after K&N. Actually had to put paper panel back once, cos was cleaning the K&N. Even the Mrs was wondering whay is the engine so sluggish....
So there.

I agree, my 3.0 tends to rev out slighttly quicker with the K&N, even if it doesn't add any extra power, it sure builds it quicker.
I have since also fitted my old catback 2.5" exhaust and some CAI to the stock airbox and on cold nights this thing feels like it flies :P ....gotta get around to fitting the unichip back in some day...

Ive noticed Swee **** All difference with the addition of the K&N panel filter. But could be because the rest of my engine is stock.

As stated earlier, the Ralliart uses the standard TJ paper filter. On my last car, a TH Sports, I fitted a K&N panel. I would agree that it does rev harder above about 3500 RPM with the K&N. The BIG problem is that below that rev range, the K&N makes the vehicle perform like a complete dog. Definite acceleration flat spot (see 3rd Gen forum for posts on this topic), and very non-linear performance. There appear to be issues with the Mitsu MAS being confused by the K&N superior air flow.
As most of our cars are used around town most of the time, you would be mad to install something that adversely affects acceleration and driveability in that critical performance band - you will simply find yourself being dragged off by the average '85 Corolla at the lights!! I would strongly suggest sticking with the standard Mitsu air filters, and I have just put a new one in my Ralliart.
