hey guys, im in the process of making some plaques, i guess you could call them, basically i got a pioneer box, cut out the "pioneer" logo to make a stencil, then i got an old school folder, u know the ones with a vynl covering, then i cut out the pioneer logo using the stencil i made, and im going to glue it onto some clear plastic and mount them somewhere in my car with a neon of some colour behind it, so, my question is (finally) i want to give the plastic a frosted look so that you cant see through it to whats behind, i though of just scratching it heaps, but it probly wouldnt turn out very nice, so, any ideas?

cheers,
tom

A very fine grade of wet and dry sand paper (use it wet) should do the job. Just remember to sand it in one direction.

You can also buy the proper frosted film from glass suppliers which is what they apply to glass to give it that frosted look. Wouldnt be expensive and im sure you could probobly even get an offcut.

it really depends on what you're using. acrylic? perspex? other?

There is always sandblasting, but most of the time its too harsh and strong for plastics. For plastics, there are some etching chemicals out there, but from what i've heard, they don't work that well. I guess you could try the sticker thing, that's probably the easiest. The best way to get etched stuff on acrylic is probably getting it laser cut.
