replacing them is piss easy if u wanna do that. first, get the 8 tappets u need from wherever.
1. take the rocker cover off (and all components to b able to take the rocker cover off). be careful with the rocker cover gasket (will b in the bottom of it) cause it is very flimsy and u can snap it pretty easily too)
2. u dont need to take the timing chain or water pump pulleys off so leave them on
3. there are i think 10 bolts holding the rocker gear down. u will c them. there are small ones on the "rails" u can see and then the big ones which are ur head bolts. dont touch the head bolts obviously. also, there are 2 smaller bolts holding the rocker gear down at the water pulley end. take all of the bolts out that i mentioned above (again, not head bolts lol). also, dont pull the rocker gear off just yet.
4. there will b things that sorta look like taps, called rockers. they pivot on the rails and also hit down on the valve springs u can see (really hard springs, they should lose tension wen u undo the rocker gear bolts)
5. the tappets are in the rocker, on the side where the valve spring is. u will see some of them fall out anyway wen u undo the rocker gear bolts. to get the tappets out, just lift each rocker, 1 at a time carefully, so that u dont lose a tappet down into ur timing chain assembly or something. then u are mcF*****.
6. once all tappets are out, slide the new ones in carefully. u may need 2 ppl as it can get abit tricky. if u put one in one side, another one the opposite end might fall out. but persist til they are all in.
7. redo the bolts up and check for top dead centre (a circle on the timing chain pulley needs to point directly upwards. then, remove dizzy CAP to check if the rotor points to number 1 plug connection on the dizzy cap)
7.5. make sure the bolts are done up properly. go around each one several times to make sure they are down tight. not as hard as u could possibly get them, otherwise u run a risk of shearing the bolts and then, again, u are mcF*****.
8. redo rocker cover and components. the 2 bolts holding down the rocker cover don't need to b put on real tight either. not even as tight as u could almost get them. just do it til its firmly holding them down and if u start to see a tiny bit of oil leakage, then do them up a tiny bit more.
thats all. its pretty easy wen u know how. its just a pain wen doing it. hope that helps

gregories recommends wrapping the rocker and lifter with elec tape so they dont fall out. Also there is a method to bleeding them

You can use the same method of bleeding them to clean them. Sometimes they do gunk up and all they need is a good clean and they return to normal operation. It is the same method as the bleeding, just substitute the diesel (they still reccomend diesel or light weight oil dont they?) for petrol or metho. Use the same method of depressing the spring and ball inside, let it squirt the petrol back out. Once you have done it a couple of times, change to oil and bleed them as normal and put them back in.
