ok so today i had a redback muffler fitted to my TL magna wagon. Didnt do the whole cat back thing, just did the muffler. Sounds a touch louder then i was expecting, but its a good sound all the same so that doesnt matter too much. What i was a bit surprised to notice is that it seems to have a bit more power off idle. I had always noticed that between idle and say 2500rpm my car was a little bit sluggish, i mean it wasnt slow, but i always felt that you had to get some revs on board before the car really got up and went. But now it seems to have go from the word go. In fact ive been accidently chirping the front wheels quick regularly when taking off, something my car NEVER did before. so me is :D but maybe have to adjust the amount of throttle i use in take off from now on :P

Odd that you are surprised by this when the most common question on these forums by new-comers is "what's the first mod I should do?" to which we always answer "get a new muffler" :P

Anyway, congrats on the purchase. Is it a redback "megaflow" straight through muffler?

no idea dude, i just know its a redback, however i did notice that i could see out the other side when i looked in one end, so it cant be too bloody restrictive!

Sorry to harp on about the muffler once more.. but does the exhaust enter at one corner and leave at another, or does it plow through the middle of the muffler? (Just trying to compare it to what an exhaust shop here was trying to sell me).

yeah enters on one side, and exits on the other side. But if you look through it diagonally you can see the other side.. so it IS streight through.. just on an angle :P

What would i compare the sound too? well to me it has the same exhaust note it had before (which was a good'en) just its about 2-3 times louder, which is exactly what i wanted because i really thought the V6 had a really good exhaust note with the standard muffler, the problem was that unless your sitting behind the car with your head 1 foot away from the muffler, you couldnt hear the bloody thing!! not anymore :D

The thing i really like about it is that i can drive it around normally, and you only just get a nice subtle little hint of an exhaust note, but when you open her up, she just sounds damn horny!!

were u get it from, i got mine from mr muffler, 250 for rear muffler, n 200 for the rest, i did it in to diff times didnt have cash rite up, but when u get the whole lot done and u have worked it in it makes awsome noise, if i had extractors it would sound like the skyline or even better cuz its a magna.....

speedy's exhausts and towbars in brisbane, the muffler was 145, plus 45 for the tip i picked, so 190 all together. I decided against doing a full cat back system because it already had a 2.5" pipe on it standard, and the centre muffler is a streight through design, so as the bloke who did it for me said, there would be stuff all gain from doing a full cat back system.

In fact, you'll lose a pinch of power by going from the factory mandrel piping to press-bent mild steel. You could gain a little by dumping the factory silencer - but most people find that a resonator is a requirement anyway (unless you are deaf to start with).
