For anyone who has urethane engine mounts, what's the verdict. Would you recommend them?

I had one. Since upgraded to a factory one. I could have drilled some holes in it to make it not as stiff but couldn't be bothered. I think you'd be hard pressed to notice any benefits from it. This one made the cabin noisy. Not saying that others don't but I'm not the only one to experience this.

I'll second what Redav said.

Wherever the QLD guys organised it through. It wasn't an RPW unit. From what I've read, those dudes are happy with RPW's. I don't see a real reason for getting stiffer ones. I figured they were a third of the price as genuine ones so might still do the trick. Not quite.

Generally from my experience with Fords and Mazdas, if you replace one with poly urethane then you need to replace all with poly urethane because of the extra strength/stiffness actually applies extra force to the other rubber mounts.

good point, although i heard that it can create too much vibration in the cabin

But it should reduce any unwanted flexing which ultimately results in "tramping" which is deffinately worth eliminating in any FWD vehicles if and where possible - makes for better traction!
You can also replace your suspension bushes with poly urethane replacements, doing so may result in a slightly harsher ride due to their being less give compared to the stock rubber ones but again tramping will be significantly reduced and if combined with an anti-lift kit from whiteline I'd hope eliminated!

how many have u replaced in your car? i was thinking about doing most of mine, but i heard the harshness can be pretty bad

I've not done any of them yet, i'm going to fit a whiteline anti-lift/caster kit first and see how things go from there.

Can any one provide a rough idea how much it costs to install them?

Don't get urethane engine mounts unless you want your teeth rattled out :) or you have a g/f that likes the vibes.

The Engine side (driver side mount) you can do yourself easily.
With the tools, it's a 30min job yourself,
tools needed are:
17mm DEEP SOCKET (1/2" drive perferred)
1/2" drive Torque Rench.
Hydro/sci Jack, if your car is lowered, need to jack up the front right wheel before you can get the support under the sump.
Other smaller sockets or spanners to undo Cruise control module if you have it, and the TVA attached on the Mount it self

Didn't the guys in the Mitsu Rally car try urethane engine mounts and then change them back to the original rubber ones cause they found that they were better?

An Average motor mechanic would charge around $45-50 per hour, and I think the job can be done in half an hour. But I doubt they'll be rushing it for ya, so I would say, it'll cost ya around 50bucks to get it put in by a mechanic.
