Hi Guys,

Just noticed that my front engine mount rubber has cracked right through, so it's just floating around in there.. Not Good(TM). I'll check the other's for wear on the weekend..

I was wondering where you'd go to get these? Is it something that you'd get from Bursons, or would I have to go to Mitsubishi for it? Anywhere cheap in Melbourne?

Cheers,

Carl

There were some QLD guys that were reconditioning 3rd Gen mounts with urethane for about $100. They may be able to do 1st Gens as well.

The 3rd Gen's mounts are $300 factory, so it is worth getting them done in the urethane. It helps the tramping of the tyres on a hard take-off in the 3rd gens, bvut adds a little more
noise.

Do a search on it and ask.

Not sure if it would help but i got my mates castor rods from a R32gtr and got the rubber from them and pressed it into mine. now i have solid front and rear engine mounts and they are great :)

Engine mounts are a regular replacement, especially on auto Astrons.
If your engine leaks oil the rubber perishes even faster.

Have gone thru several.. the aftermarket ones with the 3-spoke
design might look beefier, but the 2-spoke Mitsubishi originals
seem to last longer.

Originals were about $80 I think.

Springcleaning today and just tossed out a used one today.
Looks pretty much the same as yours. lol

I did have an oil leak around the water pump pully, which I fixed at the same time. It used to leak a little before the rebuild, and also WAY previous to that the oil pressure sender spat oil everywhere.. I'll be looking more closely at engine mounts in the future, that's for sure :)

The one I got from Buron's was (kind-of) solid, didn't have any spokes or wholes. There's a recessed lip around the mount to aid in flex (I guess), but didn't look as fragile as the original.. We'll see how long it lasts..

Caution... rubber engine mounts are there for a reason - insulation from vibration!

If they're too solid your engine will soon rattle the rest of the car too much.

Check the nuts & screws under your front subframe... check (often) to see if they've
loosened or check (occasionally) to see if they've fallen off.
Check subframe for any cracks from busted welds too.

PwrSteering reservoir can also rattle loose, the unions to the oil cooler also (starts weeping).
If you loose too many screws to the plastic underpan it'll eventually fall off too. lol

Makes sense to check all screws for tightness regularly.
