Paul he's not talking about the SOHC 3.5 that are in the aussie magnas, he's talking about a DOHC import. It's basically just a 3.5 version of killbillys car, i was actually thinking of importing a 2.5 litre V6 DOHC, was gonna see if it bolts straight into the 4 cylinder, would be interesting to see some power figures on that engine, could be good for a nice little turbo ;).

Cam covers are just rocker covers?
i mean cos these motors are overhead cam - i guess they can be called cam covers...
or am i completely wrong?

I know there are some who have done the 6G72 DOHC N/A engine upgrade, but Is there anyone out there, who has completed a 6G72 DOHC Twin Turbo install ?
I am currently looking around for one of these engines if anyone has any more information of why I should go for the N/A or the TT (other than the extra $$$ that is - which may be the deciding factor anyway :doubt: ).

I will be in New Zealand in a month or so, might take a look through a few auto parts recyclers to find an engine for my TS. Is the 6G72 DOHC 24 valve the best to go for? (easiest swap?)
Has anyone ever looked at importing an engine from NZ before?

:stoopid:
Kim,
While your there, if you see more than one (first one’s yours of course), jump onto a PC somewhere and keep this site updated. Maybe you could get a few parts together in a shoe-box and we could all share in the freight somehow ???
I would be interested in an engine as well (maybe) – see my Wanted post:
http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?p=253411#post253411
and while this thread is discussing DOHC engines, does anyone have a definitive list of the engines ? I have seen many websites that quote different KW and even some that say there were different 3.0L DOHC 6G72 engines produced with different KW – How are we to know the difference – engine numbers maybe. :headbange
Here is some of the differing stats I have found from just 2-3 websites…
6A12 2.0 litre DOHC MIVEC 147kw
6A12 2.0 litre DOHC Twin Turbo 147kw

Not sure if you made a typo there or not..but there's no such thing as a 6G74 3.0 litre, the 74 in the code means 3.5 litre.
Yes there were 2 different types of DOHC engine from 1990-1993, and from 94+
The 90-93 had 202hp n/a and 300hp in TT,
94's had about a 20 hp gain on that. 220 and 320hp respectively
90-93 had a crank angle sensor, 94+ had a crank and cam angle sensor (or it was the other way around Im not quite sure on that)
Other way to tell is that the 90-93's had 3 plugs for the ECU and the 94+ has 4 plugs.
would the 6G72 3.0 litre DOHC MIVEC 198kw fit in the TS? (are all the 6G72's the same sort of thing).
I don't know how many 6G72's will fit in a shoe box, hehe, but yeah - if I find some good stuff while I'm there I'll keep you posted.

I'm with Kim on this. would you need to move mounts if you started with a V6? Cos if you would I'd stick with my car until I could afford one with a manual trans. Also what model did they come out in. I am shocking with part/engine names.
ok im completely gone with the v6 motors, but with the 3000gt motor is that the MIVEC engine? if not which car was the MIVEC engine planted in?

Nah the 3.0l MIVEC is the same orientation as the 6G74 and 6G72 sohc 24v (3rd gen V6)
But the DOHC 24v 6G74 3.5l V6 is the same orientation as the 6G72 sohc 12 and dohc 24v 3.0l (2nd gen V6)
So that's the bees knees of engines right there.
Unless someone can find an 8A80 and see which way that's oriented because I have a feeling it's the same as the 2nd gen V6...
Hojo, the MIVEC 3.0l was from the 1995 diamante 30M (3rd gen magna shape)
The 3000GT motor is a standard DOHC 24v 6G72 3.0l non mivec.

Okay, I have more questions (and probably more to come), so to be fair to nicem8, I'll take this discussion out of this thread so we can leave this thread to the original topic of his engine upgrade.
My new thread can be found here: http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18321
Nicem8, please update us when you progress your project - it sounds great ! Will love to hear more as you go.
