View Full Version : ECU terminal wires... wheres RPM?
Does anyone know which wire (which number terminal) is for RPM?
I'm looking at the Apexi SAFC-ii ecu terminal diagram and everything matches up perfectly with my ECU Terminal Diagram (from the workshop manual) except for RPM. According to the workshop manual, B-1 (which should be RPM) says "(N/A)".

I used the line that drives the igniton transistor. It seems to work fine.

Pin 101
I've been trying to do this myself dude (trying to get my tacho to work)...it's a nightmare

Razorjack - have you fitted the SAFC-ii to yours?
Killbilly - that xls file link doesnt work?
Your pin 101 is the same as my B1 (according to the SAFC-ii diagram), but my workshop manual says that is N/A...

My bad..it works now
Thanks :)
I wonder why my workshop manual says that 101 is "N/A"? I can't even find any reference to RPM on there at all...
Maybe I'll have to find a Wiring Manual instead - the workshop manual barely mentions the ECU wiring... (other than the diagram in the EFI section)

Same mate, all the manuals I've seen don't have any pin diagram at all..

Not the safc but a different piggyback(SMT-6) ,this one had no problem working with the signal.According to haynes its coloured white/green .
Killbilly: I've also noticed the Apexi RSM wiring diagram for the 6G72 Diamante has the RPM in a different spot than the Apexi SAFC-ii wiring diagram! Is 101 definately it?
Razorjack: Do you know who sells the SMT6 in Australia? Would you reccommend it?

Definitely 101 for the DOHC, I would assume it's the same for the SOHC.

Yes but they'll rob you blind , in South Africa where its made it sells for about A$360 for the kit , from the Us its about A$660 with shipping and here its $850 with the cable and shipping.Eventually got mine from ebay for $300 , but for a bit more I'd go for the Greddy so long as you can get a copy of the software for free ,unless of course you dont want to touch it yourself.

Can you post the diagram you're talking about Kim? Just interested to compare the two.
Sorry, can't find the PDF files I had of the manuals, and the hard copy printouts are with the mechanic.
I got them here: http://www.apexi-usa.com/documentation.asp - the RSM manual and the SAFC-ii manual. Both point out different connections for RPM for the same engine/ecu....

Killbilly... someone told me that "RPM is probably taken off the crank signal" ??

hmm....Possibly for the sohc. Reliable sources from the 3si forum tell me it's definitely pin 101 on the DOHC ecu.
Since the SOHC doesnt have an ignition control module, it could come from the crank.
CAS position output is pin 69 on the DOHC, but I dunno if that would work. It's probably more for timing than RPM.
what does that mean as far as wiring it in to a piggyback computer? (where is the crank singnal found?).

When I wired up my SAFC you have to get the RPM from the coil (negative I think they call it).
There are 3 wires (semi exposed) you can tap into. One does nothing (not RPM), one gives the SAFC a signal to about 2,000 rpm and theres another that gives out the full RPM signal to the unit.
Theres nothing on the ECU I could find that did it and you can't piggy back it from the wire going to the dash tacho.
Thanks for that MAGNA!
How did you find your SAFC-ii? A big improvement in power/economy?
