ok some of you may have seen my other post but i need quick answers as im moving in the morning and will be poor as and have no connections to the outside world (internet orhome phone). I have just taken out the non-working 4 inch speaker in the dash, jase had taken the other out already, now i have the wires out ready to hook up.
Heres the go; the wires will never reach the doors so i have decided to hook up the tweeters. Heres some questions; 1) are the tweeters safe to run straight off the head unit minus the crossovers etc??? (the tape deck is 4 by 40watts so itd be running about... 15-20wrms?) 2) is it ok to hook the wires from the tweeters to the speakers wires and just wrap some electrical tape around them???, thanks for your replys.

Its fine albeit dodgy to use electrical tape. Sounds like its not going to be an award winning car anyway so won't hurt it.
Unless ur tweets have inbuilt crossovers they'll sound like sh!t through your headunit without crossovers. Way too much bass will get through for them to handle.

If you can change your head unit out's high pass to a higher frequency it'll be k, otherwise best of luck...
Woops didn't read it was a tape deck, unless you have a super madd tape deck with high passes you'll risk destroying your tweeters, just throw the cross overs in to where the 4" were and wire the tweeters from there, it'll just take you minutes longer.

does it matter which way the current runs through the crossovers???, and how would a proffesional connect the two extensions???

headunits dont high pass for tweeters...
the high pass on headunits is for midbass...
So u can blend between mids and subs.

the crossovers are for the tweeters though, and you did say theyll sound better so i wouldnt mind chucking them in

Pro would use one wire all the way and solder the ends...
use a crossover if you have it/can get one.

from the looks of my crossovers id say that they are made for the woofers as well, it should be fine to just leave one input disconnected?
I think the tweeters plug straight onto the crossovers...see pic ill add some paint to the pic...http://img129.exs.cx/img129/8792/tsmagnaa1nf.jpg
this right?

yep...
What mids are you running? Matching Kenwoods as well?

yes that is right, just out of interest, if the woofer and tweeter are run out of the same speaker cable how are they fed different power levels in an amped set up, is this the work of the crossover too oris it that the tweeter/woofer are designed to work hand in hand.
So can i confirm it is safe to hook these up with the woofer disconnected.

Yep its safe to hook them up. Just dont over power them... You'll hear when that happens.. it'll sound crap. Turn the volume down low when u first turn it on too... Just to get a feel of it, use your ears to hear when they are distorting (distortion = bad) :)
the crossover itself splits up the frequencies. So the woofers recieve the mid-low frequency and the tweeter receives the high frequencies. This is a passive system (the crossover is passive) vs an active system where an external amplifier can be used to run the tweeters (high passed) and the mids (band passed so they're not too low and not too high. Then subs are low passed.
In this case the amplifier has it's own crossovers that can be adjusted accordingly, these usually give more options as to the curve of the crossover (how quickly the frequencies are cut off)
Remember a headunit is an amp, so most still run splits using their passive crossover (as you are doing) when they have an external amplifier. Crossovers are usually engineered for the tweeter and midrange combo which takes years of research. It will take a big effort to get the same soudn from an active setup.
If you have different tweeter/midrange combos (eg diff brands) it can be beneficial.
