Finished work early today...
Decided to finally install my Alpine S series 12" and MRT-406 amp.
Am very impressed my mrs was inside and said things started to vibrate...lol.
Only prob is my crappy std speakers cant handle anything decent into them.
I need to try and find a x-over setup so I can stick it between my H/U and front spkrs, it will only be a temp fix until I can afford some decent splits and a amp, but having a bub about to arrive will put them off for a while.
Any ideas on how I can get my frnts to run just high pass? Without using a amps x-over? Have disconnected the 6x9s as they were not handling the bass at all, as my JVC H/U only has one (rears) pre-outs(seem to be low voltage), I have had to fade to the rear so my sub runs a decent vol without killing the front 6.5"s.
any ideas appreciated.....

Damn Telstra slackers hehe
$90 ish will get you a cheapo audioline amp... will have fully adjustable high/low pass and will be able to pump any speaker v nicely compared to a headunit
This can then be moved to rears etc in time.

lol, yeah its a hard life.
Yeah I guess so, seeing as my deck would be lucky to output 13-18rms(45w max), and the x=overs would cost prob same amt....I was impressed with a altec amp, I use to run my soundstream 12" with, went very well. Might look at them.
But isnt it a bad idea to use RCA splitters? which I'd have to considering I only have one preout.

if u run it into a cheapo amp there should be a line out which can run straight into your sub amp. Check ur sub amp now it prob has one too.

No worries, just get low level line converters for the front therefore turning your 15WRMSx 2 into a pair of RCA outputs for an amp. Think you should replace the fronts with even a Sony special $80 6inch speaker first, your fronts are 6inch dude but you can use either 6 or 6.5inch no probs without a spacer.
Or alternatively you can use a small capacitor to filter out the low Hz. Not sure which one you would need though sorry.

Place some 150uf caps in series with all of your speakers - either the jaycar crossover caps (at $7.80 each) or you could go ultra-cheap and buy 4 100uf ($1.80 each - RY-6825) and 4 47uf ($0.95 each - RY-6820) 50V bipolar RB electrolytics.
Put a 100uf and a 47uf bipolar cap in paralell with each other, and put this in series with your speaker leads. This will give a high pass filter of 260hz at 6db/octave, or if you use a 100uf cap only, you get a 400hz high pass.
My advice - try the 100hz first, it should cope OK, then try the 47uf in paralell, if it works - good, if not - meh.
So there is a solution for you - $11 all up - cheap enough for you?
Cheers

What if I ran a pair of 100uf? Giving 200uf, that'd lower the freq a bit wouldnt it so there'd be much less of a "gap" between the mains and the sub?

Hell yeah, champion effort man.......
BTW - what do gen 3 magna's have in the front are they 6" or 6.5"s ?

Either or... Both will fit. The stock are 6". There are spaces for 6.5, just screw through the plastic.
