Folks,

Our 2.6 efi TR magna died yesterday. No pulse to the fuel injection. No spark from the coil. Starter motor works fine, battery is fully charged. There is a new distributor. Prior to this, we had two ocassions when it just stopped and wouldn't start again for a few minutes.

The car is close to 200k. It is in great shape, but we've only had it for four months.

NRMA said it was an electrical problem. Our normal mechanic suggested that the computer might have died. he is an honest bloke and is worried that we might waste money chasing the cause.

Any clues on how to test the computer without a degree in electrical engineering? If I need to replace the computer, where is the best source? Wrecker? Reco? New?

I'd appreciate any help. New member!

Get it tested at an auto electrician, they'll charge $50, if its faulty they'll subtract the $50 from the cost of a replacement, which is usually about $400. If it isn't faulty you lose $50 but know its not that. Check the coil, might have been burnt out? may need a new coil, even spark plugs and leads.

Could be simple as a corroded connection ,if the signal from the sensors in the distributor doesnt get to the ecu ,the car wont start. One bad connector or damaged cable could do all that.
