Hey All,
As you will know, im running a 2.6l Astron with stock internals, and running 10psi boost, now i dont know how much longer this thing will last on this setup, so im going to start building a new motor now, so i can put it in when the one i have now dies.

Specs:
2.8l Astron 2 Block
Forged Low Compression Pistons
Forged Conrods
Performance Oil Pump
Performance Timing Chain Kit
1st Gen EFI Head
700 - 800cc Injectors
Perfromance Fuel Rail
Sigma Adjustable Rocker Gear
Performance Gaskets
80mm Throttle Body
New Turbo (Open to suggestions)

Now, if im incorrect with any of these things, or you have a suggestion can you please let me know?

Thanks,
AF

SUGGESTION : Start saving.

And get a fastish spooling turbo The T25's are good no?

How much will all that cost? Go like some of the other turbs magnas, t04

I wouldn't bother with forged pistons or new rods. Rebuild the motor with chrome rings and good quality ACL bearings, perhaps race series, and have the head ground out a little to get the compression lower if yours still worried about it. stock compression isn't a problem at all i dont think, the only thing that will kill your engine is worn rings and maybe a head gasket because of the fact the std one isn't designed to be very tought and is probably half shagged now anyway.

T25 is too small.

T28 all the way, hey brendan

Just have to pickup on EVERy little mistake dont you Samurai....

TC: Im not listening to you, 9 out of 10 people tell me to go new pistons, so im going for new pistons, i mean, if i run something like.... 15 - 20psi on this motor, then the stock pistons will give up pretty quick, so if i have a chance to build a new motor, i build it right.

no offence dude....but u havent got enuf money to get an ECU......where u gonna get a few thousand to build a new motor?

It will be something done over the next year or so...I aint gonna ****en build a brand new motor just like that, i will work on it over time.

why not save up and buy everything at once and get everything done at once. they way, if u change ur mind ur not stuck with a half built engine that you've spent $1000 on.

and dont say u definately will go right through with it cause the best laid plans can go to hell

T25 is too small.

T28 all the way, hey brendan

and a few other tricks

id go with a T3 or a T4 :)

and lag  T4 is too big

How am i gonna decrease lag with a bigger turbo?

joseph

t4 to big heheheheheheh thay run well on a 2.0L :bowrofl:
have a look at this its a ma8ts galant with 2.0L turb runing a T4

whats the point of a massive turbo on a car that will only handle 10-14psi without bulk internal work http://forums.eis.net.au/images/smiles/icon_rolleyes.gif

The smaller the better so the turbo can aid the down low torque aswell as up top... and its not like the astron will ever rev to be able to make a T4 spool anyway mate

that galant runs 28psi on stok internals :)

is the engine life, like, 1 week?

AussieFella

Thats why im putting new internals in, so the bigger turbo will be able to handle the boost.

pistons?

well, i put a few sets of rings and bearings in iot

probabbly the best length of time unopened was about 18 months
Melv says:
but im bloody fussy, and always doig something

thats not to bad

the pistons were untouched since aug 99

Why would pistons break :doubt: The only thing that will wear out in the engine is the rings and big ends. If the engine can handle 28psi then it would be fine, but the power output and force on the rings and bearings would be insane, hence why in a year they wear out.

he's had 3 sets of rings and bearings and at best thay larsted 18 months
so ide run 10 to 15psi :)
and yes pisions do break

goddammit, learn how to spell already!!

No matter what you say TC, im still buying new internals.... Just because the Charade never runs enough boost to break a piston...

dude if your gonna run 15-20 psi then your going to need every bit of what you just suggested in your motor! 2.6ltr in a 4cyl is alot of spinning mass inside your engine, with that much boost you can say bye bye to your new motor unless you have some bloody strong internals. I think what you have suggested is a pretty good start, but i would have a good chat to an engine builder or something who actually knows what they are talkin about, unlike TC, and see what they think. Might even need to do something with the crank.. i dunno, how strong are standard cranks in astrons???

Yeah man, i will probably need a new crank aswell, because i was thinking more like 20psi...

Went and bought my donor motor today, its a complete 1st Gen TN EFI motor, its done a fair few k's and its in need of a rebuild, so ill go pick it up tommorow morning and begin to strip it down, clean it and do all the various things that need doing, first and foremost the block will go to the machine shop to be bored out and crack tested. I paid $100 from the wreckers for the motor, incase anyone was interested...

I didn't. My project motor's my old one...
