I have an aging 89 magna, with EFI.
It has been a work horse since 1989 when it was bought.

It has done nearly 250,000km, and alot of those towing a van.

The only thing that has gone on it the whole time, has been two altinators, due to the place very close to the exhuast manifold, one starter motor, and a clutch.

Rest was fine ... but it is getting old, and has started to blow quite a bit of smoke when it starts, and for a little while afterwards, untill it wrams up enough to really burn off anyhting coming out the exhuast.

I am thinking it is in definet need of either an engine reco, or a new reco engine. Gasgets have been replaced and stuff ... but it doesn't help that much, I think th o-rings are also going ... which so far have not been replaced.

Yeah, any way .... the engine is getting real old, burns oil, and needs to be replaced, i have two questions.

Average pirce for a reco engine (including fitting), and what places deal with reco engines. (specificaly victoria) I found one place near me called magna recycler ringing there tomorrow ....

and do the 2.4 dohc 16valve engines fit into TP (89) magnas ....

Thanks for any replies .....

There is but it is an import engine from the oversea's Galant. Apparenlty its a killer motor for its size, i was thinking about importing the head and doing a swap for my SOHC.

I have a 2.4 TE and owned a 2.6 TS and let me say there is a massive difference in power / fuel economy and generaly driveability. Im not sure if you can bolt up the 2.4 into your 89 but if you could DO IT as you will be amazed with the difference.

Let us know how you go with your findings. Goodluck :D

Yeah THe one out of the TE magna ... that is what I meant :)

I will see if they do bolt straight up .....

So I assume no one here knows then.

Out of the TE was SOHC..

There are no Magnas with any sort of DOHC motor stock.

Well a reco 2.6 installed is $1925 and it takes about 2 weeks (to reco the engine before it is dropped in.)

The 2.4 wont go in. Well I am sure it could in the same way people have put the 2L Evo engines in, but it wont bolt straight up.

$1925 for a reconditioned engine fitted? That's silly. I wouldn't pay more than $1000 personally.

You can put the 2L engine in, but you have to modify engine mounts / etc and re-wire things left right and centre, same with the 2.4 and the 3.0l which I'm still contemplating whether to install ;) .

You should see if my 2.6l TR/TS Turbo motor would fit in your car :)

Where can I find a place that will do it for $1000 Supplied and fitted??
Seriously, cause if I can find it for $1000, that is a lot better than $1925.
I can only find one place in melbourne that advertises as a magna place, at the moment (still looking..........)
