I have a 2002 Magna VRX, I am wanting a little bit more power but don't know where to start.
The car is stock, apart from stereo.
Is it worth changing the exhaust?

I think the VR-X has a decent exhaust stock, quiet but decent. I would just look at a pod, extractors, oversized throttle body then a uni chip to finnish it all off. A Rising fuel pressure regulator wouldn't hurt either....
Just my ideas, I can also supply these parts to you also but i'll leave it up to you.

You could also mount a rocket engine into your trunk. But I don't think blake has that in the store yet. Who knows, maybe once the new AM is up and running.

I wouldnt recommend the oversized throttle body as RPW dont have one working with cars fitted with cruise control. Trust me my sports has tried it out works OK without the cruise control module but once l fitted the oversized throttle body with c-control, the tension on the spring wasnt tight enough. Hopefully RPW can get to work on it, as im keen on getting one put on , the performance increase is definately noticable.
The more people that show an interest in it aswell, might get RPW to speed things up a bit, i've been waiting easily over 6 months....
Depends on whether you want to void the warranty..
Mods that do not involve voiding warranty are:
K&N Ram Pod filter with cold air intake (necessary so you dont get heat from engine instead of cold air)
Extractors
Lowering (not a perfomance enhancer.. or is it.. haha)
and not much else.
Ill be doing all of the above to my VRX.

on the VR-X lowering your car won't increase handling as much as executive models but will still help stiffen the suspension and give you that agressive stance. I still think its the first exterior mod anyone should perform.

I have a 2001 VRX and am also looking at making modifications. I contacted UNI chip and they told me not to bother about getting their chip because the results were not substantial. On the other hand I went to www.powerchipgroup.com and they guaranteed a 14 kW and 25Nm increase. Not sure what to think of that, as UNI chip said not much increase.
Does anyone know exact modifications done to the Ralliart magna, and if they are easy replicate on the VRX.
How much power icrease do you get from fitting a K&N air filter?
Does that cause much of a problem with insurance companies?(RACV?)

I wouldn't bother with a uni chip, you won't get much benefit for the amount you'll spend on having one fitted and tuned. The place that told you of the power increase wants a sale...
A VR-X allready has a nice ehaust system (although no harm can be done with a straight through muffler)
I would reccomend a Pod Filter if you like thier cosmetic appeal and sound or a panel filter if you want to keep things quiet. Pods do flow better in my opinion (although widow will suggest otherwise ) You will probobly get 3-5kw fromt this mod.
Does your vr-x have cruise control?

Also if its a manual i would reccomend a quick shifter, they really help pickup.

Agree with Blakie;
If it's a manual, YOU MUST HAVE THE SHORT SHIFTER!!!!!!!! :o
You'll never go wrong with it! Sent mine down to RPW and when I fitted it back into my car... it's the closest I could get to an S2K's... Not there but closest.. it's not sloppy like the original.. short and precise... Love it!

I wouldbn't recommend a powerchip.
I had a Gold98 powerchip on my 2.0 U12 Pintara, it was rated at 95kW up from 83kW stock. I also had exhaust, pod, extractors and I don't reckon the power claims they make are substantiated. None of their chips are actually tested on cars, it all invovles computer similations and other stuff like that. I'd rather the unichip after a few more mods.

Thanks for the advice on the computer chips, I'll think I will give them a miss for now.
Blake... I do have cruise control and its a 5 speed seq shift.
What would be the next mod to get that would give me a bit more power?

I was going to suggest a larger throttle body but you'll loose cruise control if you do it...
Start with a quickshifter, pod and straight through muffler, if you want more then you can go from there...

AS for how much power a performance part gives you cannot be defined accurately as every car is different. Say we both have the same car and same mods, a dyno result will give out different power figures.. that's just how it is.. no cars are every alike even though they are the same ones. The response to mods will always be different on each car. The air filter will give you anywhere between 1 and 5 HP... only a dyno can tell...
As for the mods.. like Blake said, filter and muffler first for a start.. YOu have a VRX which is essentially the same car as my Sports cept mine's a manual.. anyway... after those mods.. you can start planning the extractors blah blah blah.. I would love to have the O/S TB but I'm not ready to sacrifice my cruise control...
I've done my stage one mods.. now I have already starting on my stage 2...
You in Melbourne? Feel free to contact me so we can get together... :)

Do u guys reckon the pod is worth ****ing up the CAI?
I know you still have that front bit but wont you just be sucking in hot under-bonnet air?
I mean i love that induction sound but not if im gonna loose power...

You will find that the increased velocity or ammount of that that a pod allows to flow will give your more power than cold air.
I allways reccomend using some cold air ducting. I will have to get shots of my stepup so you can all see how effecient mine is...

loose power...
You wont.. Not if you buy the cold air intake that comes with the Ram PODS from RPW...

MagnaV6Sports13/Blake,
Thanks for your help, I think I will start with the filter and straight through muffler.
How important is it to get the cold air intake with the RAM PODS filter?
If i get it, do i have to install that PVC pipe thingy or something similar to give me more CAI?
Whats the downside if I don't install the extra thing to give me CAI?

God no, all you need is 100mm heater ducting availible from any good hardware store. You can purchase a 5m length from us for $25 plus postage and handling and you just run it down to your bumper either behind a fog light cover or any opening you find. I just simply removed my fog light cover.
