View Full Version : Getting new keys
I like to know what is the process of getting some new keys from mist for my TE magna, for those who are interested we pluged the ECU into the comp and when we turned the key the comp said "no key present".

Have to go to your Mitsuibishi dealer, they have to send it up from Adelade costs about $70 i think. I'm sure someone else will confirm this

For my TL recently, a key and an alarm fob was just over $106, then would of cost me $40 to get it coded but as it was being serviced they did it for $16.
The laugh is that when I got home from work the evening of the service the feckin government had found the spare that didn't come with the car at the auction and sent it to me although the fob doesn't work so I assume the battery has gone flat!
The parts dept will either need your chassis number or the 'key' number that is usually on a small metal square that comes with the keys.

I can confirm $70ish CODED from Mitsu - the key comes from Adelaide and the coding is done on the spot at the service department. Had mine done at Nortshore Mitsu last August. You need your VIN and your rego papers to order the key.

Yes your dealer will need to order the key from the Adelaide warehouse. No reason a dealer should charge anymore that $20 for a code.
If you get a new key coded or a new remote coded the dealer will nedd the vehicle and all keys or remotes for when they do the coding. The reason the other remote didnt work is because they are set with 'rolling' codes, which means if you code one remote they all need doing as the new remote will get a new code and your other remotes need to be coded to match the new one.
FYI; the remotes do nothing more than lock and unlock you car (and pop the boot) they are not the immobilser. That job is saved for they key, if you loose a key get another ASAP. You don't wanna be caught if you loose your last key.
