Ive done a search already, so relax

I know that i can put speakers into the TR doors, without having to have the verada inserts. I want to know who has done it, and what did they do?

just cut a hole? and screw on pods?

I have those annoying shelf thingos on the lower part of my door where the speaker would go, can they even come off???

thanks

EDIT: i mean how do you do it without having to buy verada inserts incase anyone gets confused.
EDIT #2: Dont be fooled by my headlights in my avatar, i dont have a Verada  , just the headlights

you don't need pods. The metal of the door already has a 6'' hole cut out for the verada's i think

cut a hole in your current door trim and screw the in to the hole.

you need to remove your little puch things on the door tho.

no, but im sure when i had the door trims off once, i saw there was space in the bottom corner for a speaker to go.

Ive had speakers put into the doors of my TR. (exec) They are the pioneer but they aint the 6by9s..
theyre in the back..
I had it pro done, cos im not good at wires.. they put my tweeters in the old speaker holes in the dash.
apparantly it was just a cut and paste type job..
no real damage done.. and quite easy..
as there is already room for the speakers..

those shelf thing can come off there are 4 screws behind the door trim
there is also a 6" hole beind the trim
tack the trim off mesure and mark where the speaker hole is and cut
once u pull off the trim you'll see
you'll also need a butter knife to get the window winder handle off
there is a u type pin just slide it behind the handle it's a ***** to do the first couple of times
so just be patiant dont try and yank it off :D :D

Dunno how you searched but I found the answers with a search lol

Anyways, there are factory holes for 6.5" speakers. I've done this myself. Just cut the hole in the trim after removing the map pockets.

The map pockets come off, they're just screwed in.

I'm also planning on doing this, i've heard the metal has a hole in it, but the door trim doesn't. Does anyone know how deep it goes in the door? i was thinking of cutting a hole, taking off those book holders and putting spacers in there, to act like door pods. If anyone in vic is planning on doing this we could all meet up and work on it together?

Heres my s**tty job, didn't want to remove the pouches so... umm... yeah.
Might not look very good, but good enough for me. It does the job.

ok i didn't mesure the space between the metal and the window but i know it's not much
maybe 3" if that

and firestorm THAT is one mega pic
and i don't think its a ****ty job looks good
but having the speaker there does it get muffled due to seat??
and also i have 2 spare blue door pouches (free) if anybody wants them :D

Hey TR envy, we could meet up cos i'd hate to screw my new speakers up or even worse my door

I learned this trick of wgnboy, if you want to put the speakers at the front of the door but still retain your map pockets, use the opposite door's pocket turned around at the back of the door trim. They line up great and you still have map pockets.

Speaker placement shown here: http://img75.exs.cx/img75/7339/untitled3copy7yr.jpg isn't that great as when the door is closed the speaker is facing right into the seat.

Id prefer to remove the pouches and put the speakers there, i dun wanna muffle the sound. But that is a very clever idea guys :)

Nsitu & TR-ENV, ill be doing mine in the next week or two, if you want to meet up and do both cars together thats alright. Itll make life easier for the both of us having someone to help. Ill PM you when i get my splits and arrange it from there.

As for the search not turning up results. I found some info, but im too impatient to go through every post :doubt:
Also i gained some new info, like the pouch reversal thingo!!

Nice trick!

Believe it or not, its not bad at all in that possition. I actually prefer it this way as its more audible than having them blasting at my feet. Although you should muck around yourself to see which setup you like (by ear). Of course if you're fitting 6's then at the feet wouldn't be so bad, more mid range response, but my s**tty pioneer 4's (got em for free :D ) actually sound better close up to the seat; there is little or no baffle with the high pitch.

Keep your eye out at Jolly Rogers in Dandenong, the Verada pods will cost you about 20 bucks, you keep the map pocket and they do screw straight on the exec door trim with manual windows.

Well, my plan was this...
...Buy 6" spacers, they're like $15 for 2. Cut the hole in the door trim, mount speaker to spaced and trim/metal in the door. And there ya go! I'm up for a meet up, we can call it, "Victorian AMC 2nd Gen Front Door Pod Day". I heard verada door pods were like trying to find a soba irish man. Was also planning on doing it in the next month or so.

Fair enough if you like it, I've listened to a few cars (a few magnas as well) with speakers in that spot and they sound muffled compared to having them in the other spot. But horses for courses...if you like it..then that's cool :D

what the hell does horses for courses mean?

Killbilly
22-01-2005, 11:10 PM
LOL it means each to his own.

A certain horse for a certain course. EG: a certain horse might be better for a wet weather track, whereas another horse would be better for a dry track. Just like your setup is better for you whereas my setup is better for me ;)

Next month i'm away on holidays so perhaps a bit earlier, cos i want to listen to it all the way to lorne. hows about end of this month? on a weekend if you guys are working

I've done it and its an easy job but frankly with 6" speakers it doesnt look the best ,but 2x 5" will fit great once I'll make up a small insert for them , there is a fairly large flat area that should hold a piece of mdf nicely without needing to do much woodwork.

However you may be correct mate. Sorry bout all this hassle lol. They might sound muffled; but my setup sounds ok coz i am able to compensate this with eq boosts and frequency settings with the HU.

That's cool mate :)

A mate of mine is Mr_Bob from CAA, he just won the SQ championship, so I get my speaker placement advice from him.

I'm going to sell my splits and redo my system since 2/3 of it was stolen. So I'll be making some nice pods for the mid speakers and angling them a bit for more clarity.

I'll let you all know how I go :D

just put my 6 1/2" splits into the doors of my ts the sarfternoon it took me around 30mins for each door it is realy quite easy. owe and it is realy easy to cut the holes in the door card with a dremel !! :D
