Hey..
i have a ticking sound at startup which ive narrowed down to a tappet or lifter problem. and i also need a rear engine mount as well. but just out of curiousity, my car has developed a rattle, similar to the timing chain rattle, however, i have just had it replaced. can the tappets and lifters also cause to make the car rattle. (its at idle and when it drives)
the car isnt going too badly, just like everyone else, bloody annoying..
thanks..
ps, oil levels are ok
when you do oil chance on the 2.6 ltr make sure you use mitsubishi oil filter as they have a return valve to keep oil up top as well as in bottom end aftermarket filters dont have the valve and the other cause is filter getting to dirty .

Ok,
As for oil filter, Ryco is the best bet, Mitsu do not make thier filters anyway.
The cause, with out listening to it will be lash adjusters, which are fairly easy to change, a little exxy though.
They do get clogged, can sometimes be cleaned with reasonable sucess however replacement is best.
As for oil, you can not go wrong with Penrite.
Im getting a similar noise,
when i had my 200000 km service done a while back i got the tappets replaced, about a month later they started tickin again. As for the oil im using gtx3 is this cool or is the penrite a better choice. I just use the gtx3 cause my dad does :S.

Ive got a new oil filter, (well its about a week old).. and im currently using magnatech.. am about to change to something else though, depends on $$$$
seems penrite and motul get some good reviews..
my mechanic thinks it could be the oil pump, which im kind of hoping not, as again i dont have the $$$
the noise seems to be a bit quieter but its there. so long as it isnt killing the motor i will let it go for now, just would like to know what it is so i can narrow it down...
but i will let him know tomorrow of the other various recommendations that you have all given me..
Thanks..

Howdy all!
I had all my lash adjusters replaced by Mitsubishi bout 1yr ago or less coz the ticking was giving me the s**ts! All went good for about 2mths, and the ticking came back! Now mths down track im thinking about getting them done again coz the ticking is getting louder! I tried a bottle of that lifter cleaner, but it didn't work... I was running it on Magnatec oil, but on its first start up in the morn, the motor was banging really really loud! Bugger if I no

Have the lash adjusters checked..... and watch what kind of engine oil you use....

First of all get an oil pressure check, 2.6 motors and the 3.0 for that matter are known for oil pump problems.
The lash adjusters will tick when installed if not bled properly, this will occur a few thousand k's afer installed.
And yes oils are oils, I will use nothng but penrite
