Okay, who's suffered the dreaded buzzing flex pipe? Did you have it from the factory gear or after market hardware? Did it get fixed and if so, how. I've read that it can be clamped somewhere. Where is that and how wide is the clap? I imagined a thin steel strap or something like that.

hose clamp? one of the heavy duty ones they use for boost piping, not the little ones. might be a cheap way around it.

That was the plan. Also hoping someone knows where it typically buzzes from. Think it could be a case of hit and miss.

Heh heh... that's what caused this rattle. Well, it's really a buzz.
i didnt have a buzz, mine completly snapped :doubt: hence my car was so loud,
after a new one being in there now havnt really noticed a buzzing on it though

This seems to be a common problem.
I have had Mitsubishi replace my engine pipe twice so far.....I think it is worse now then it was initially!
The Mitsubishi mechanic I spoke to mentioned that it is the baffle plates that come loose and cause the buzz.
I hear the buzz during deceleration and occasionally changing from 1st to 2nd.
I have just decided to live with it for now... :)

Yeah, I don't hear it much. With the window up or music on it's out of mind. If anyone asks I'll just say it's the electric supercharger.

Redav, welcome to the Magna Buzzers Club. Mine started with new headers. It's the flexible section of the pipe. Fixed it almost completely by installing couple of clamps to restrict the movement of the woven shield against the pipe work. Experiment different positions for the clamps, but mine are right at the end of the woven stuff. But I still need to work more on it to kill it completely.
I spent hours removing heat shields, cats etc before I discovered where the noise was coming from.... Rattle!

Hey, Harry. How close to the starter motor does your pipes run?

Same here, The time I bottom out and the extractors hit the ground, the bending was so great that it snapped the flex pipe, wasn't leaking but it was rattling when I accelerate, exchanged with a new one and asked the exhaust place to line it up as much as possible, (as the pacemakers now sit slightly lower than the stock headers on the 3.0Ls, so the flex pipe bends a bit more)
No problem since replacement flex pipe.

In my case there is plenty of clearance to all other parts - but to give u exact measurement I would need to crawl under..... Got your headers in?!!!

Yeah.
Coollll! How are they?
Sorry about the delayed response - been busy at work (surprise!)
I have some close to 20 mm gap between primarys and starter. Closest thing at the front is the A/C pipe, perhaps only 10-15 mm gap. But elsewhere all ok. As long as engine mounts are healthy and the donk doesn't swing, they are not going to hit anything.

I know this thread is over 10 years old but I think my flex pipe might be buzzing. Last night I had the windows down and noticed a loud buzzing when I took off. It only happens on acceleration and mostly around 1800 rpm. Once the engine had warmed up it mostly went away but was still faintly there. I'm going to crawl under there, have a look and maybe try some clamps. Failing this I may have to replace it. How hard is it to get out? Looking at the manual I would have to unbolt it from the exhaust manifolds and cat converter. Also are these available new or would I have to take my chances with a 2nd hand one?
