when i had my redback rear muffler fitted, i had a long chat with the installer about potential power gainst from exhaust mods on a magna. He said firstly that the most restrictive thing on 6cyl magnas was the rear muffler. He said big gains can also be had with extractors and a high flow cat. But he then went on to say that all the piping in between the cat and the rear muffler doesnt need to be replaced, nor does the centre muffler. He said all of this is a straight through design and no performance gain would be achieved by changing it. He reckons that the only advantage in removing the centre muffler would be increased sound, but no performance gain as it is already straight though.

I have a TL magna 3.5, i would assume the exhaust would be the same as whats on the TJ magnas. Feel free to express your views on what this particular exhaust fitter said.

i dunno about the new ones but all the olds ones where like that. the piping was mandrel bent piping with a decent size and really has no point in replacing it. Just get muffler and extractors.

RJL25. I was told the same thing from a number of Exhaust shops in penrith, they all said to just replace the rear muffler. I did replace the rear muffler with what they recommended and felt a small gain in power.
I also got extractors fitted last friday and was very unhappy, i didnt feel any power gain from the $800 to have these fitted. But i got the sports exhaust and hi-flow cat fitted monday and boy was there a huge difference in power. Dont listen to what these guys are saying at the exhaust shops, buy an exhaust and you will be very happy.
Check a guy out on ebay called onlineperformance he is selling the redback sports exhaust for $330.

The RedBack exhausts that guy is selling for the Magna on ebay...are they any good and what kind of performance would you get out of them?

I think they are good quality, he has a very good feedback with the exhausts and extractors. Afew people on here say that the redback exhaust is no good and drones your head off, I have mine fitted and sounds nice, there is alittle droning at around 1500rpm but is very quiet at 110km.
I dont no what power gain you get from this exhaust but you feel the difference between a standard exhaust and a sports exhaust.

magna 3.0L, what muffler did you originally used? And do you have any other mechanical mods to your car?

All 3.5 Litre Magnas will have a 2.5 Inch Mandrel Bend Mildsteel Piping (Measured it before)..

It's already a good enough pipe size, your muffler dude was right, by changing the headers and muffler complimented by a free flow cat, it makes a good system already.. Unless you wanna bling it up by going all stainless steel.... :)
