Hello all

I have just bought a 95 TS Wagon and was wondering what the easiest way was to remove the plastic shelves in the speaker holes in the dash, Tried parcel knife but plastic is slightly to hard to cut all the way through, and hands are slightly to big to fit under windscreen.

I'm thinking i might just put shpeakers in the doors, but was wondering if there were pre cut hold behind the upholstery and can the speakers still be installed if the door has map holders.

weclome to the club mate
unless your gunna take out the dash forget about it
you can put 6" speakers in the doors there is a 6.5" hole behind the shelf
and the shelf can be tack'n out also there a 4 screws behind the door panel

i tried to do this without taking the dash off, it took me 2 days and i ended up just ripping small peices off at a time with pliers... they are now kinda just shoved in there with the metal grill squeezed on :doubt:

good luck to you

Thanks Guys.

I won't bother with the dash in that case, not worth it if there are already holes in the door ready to be cut out.

Thanks for your replies..

I've done it (one side anyway). The hard part I found was undoing the screws on the original speaker. To cut the plastic I just used a small sharp blade I picked up from Crazy Clarks for $2. (There were three handles with replaceable blades - looked like a scalpel). There are two layers of plastic to cut out. Not too hard.

Do you know what size speakers you can put in your roof in your wagon?

I just had Alpine 4" speakers put in the dash, not really that hard at all. Lever up the metal and plastic dash guards with a screwdriver and remove the original factory speakers using a right-angle screwdriver, or equivalent. Without cutting into the dash you will have roughly 30mm to play with, seeing as my alpines were 45mm deep I had to cut the BLUE plastic directly underneath where the factory speaker magnets rest. Do not cut the black plastic (deeper down) as that is air conditioning related. You will need to remove two screw mounting tabs (you know what I mean) on the replacement speakers. You will also need to cut the plastic dash guard. Look on the reverse side of the dash guard and you'll see a circle that is criss-crossed with plastic supports, cut that out. I have found the factory wiring to be perfectly fine, however you may wish to replace it with better stuff. I just snipped off the wire as close to the factory speakers as possible.

Note that a soldering iron works bloody well to cut away the blue plastic. I'll get some pics later and post them up for you. I don't have my 4"ers amped.

Gemini: 1st gen speakers are easy to replace, just undo the wingnut under the dash and above the glovebox (theres only one) then lift the speakergrille part out, unscrew the speakers, and done! :D

I cant seem to find the wingnut

I dont see anything above the glovebox. Do i have to stick my hand under the dash or something ?

Wing nut? what wing nut??!

I just stuck my fingers into the TN centre grille (demister) in the dashboard top & pulled.
The whole front panel unclips up to reveal both dash speakers.

Stock speakers were crummy 3W jobs, very slimline about 30mm.
No decent speaker is that shallow, but instead of chopping down into
the plastic/airvent tubing we decided to go 'up' instead.
There is enough room under the panel.

Mounted the speakers about 8-10mm higher on spacers, then filled the gap
with dense closed-cell foam (try Clark Rubber).

The top front half of the dashboard (closer to the glass) is one whole metal panel.
This panel covers the speakers at either corner.

So all i have to do is grip it somehow and pull it off ? Is there anything that can snap ?
