What are you after? Normal MTX, Hight Performance or Comp subs?

Greetings All.

Well, Im after some cheapish subs that go well...The choices at the moment are:

-Duel 12" Kenwoods ($99 ea)
-Pioneer 15" ($140)
-Duel 4500 Road Thunder MTX 12" ($120 ea)
-4500 Road Thunder 4500 MTX 15" ($299)

The reason im asking this is cause i know the kenwoods and the pioneer are so so...but ive never heard MTX...

Cheers,

scrap the idea of kenwood, there not very good i believe. i think ur best option would actually be 2 x 12" pioneer subs

i used to have two MTX 12", i think the 4500s subs in my boot.

What i can say is, they're pretty good. Depends on what series you get. I had the dodgey road thunder ones (black cone). They doof pretty good compared to sony, kenwood and some pioneer ones i had a listen to.

They're good money for value. Tho...i have to question..do you really need to get MTX?

MTX competition subs on the other hand

go the MTX out of those options.
Subs are more expensive for a reason with both superior research and materials

For cheaper subs that sound fantastic I would look at:

Phoenix Gold R12
Hertz ES300
Diamond M312
Boston GS12
Image Dynamics ID12
Vibe Blackair12
Digital Designs 2012
RE Audio RE12

They would sound somewhat better than many of the ones listed above but of course that is just my humble opinion. :D

When I purchased my JBL's (see avatar), I had a choice of those standard MTX 12", the sony 12" pentagonal, or the JBL's.

There was soming that wasn't quite right with the MTX's, the cone was laminated in this rubbery crap that I think would dampen the cone travel quite a bit, and the basket seemed to be rather light in construction.

They guys there (Yes, it was Strathfield) were pushing me towards the MTX's, but there was something that stopped me. They apparently have great excursion, but is more of the uncontrolled variety.

So I went for the JBL's - I have always never had a problem with their PA equipment (I am a DJ, my current place I play have JBL speakers), and although they are a little plainer, it means because you aren't paying for bling, you get better performance.

I am still yet to get a box for them, so they are still in their boxes, waiting for installation.
