Just a question im thinking about buying a JVC KD-LHX505 Head unit, its the one with the LCD touch screen. Are these a good unit?
Can anyone suggest what i should be looking at (ie brands/models)for a mid priced amp and speaker ungrade. 6" Splits, 6" rears and 10"suboofer. Im after good SQ rather than doof doof. Realativly new to this aswell.

I was at JB hifi today looking at that unit amongst others, it caught my eye as a nice looking unit and had quite a lot of features for the money. I asked the salesman about it and as he was showing me all the stuff on the touchscreen I took notice how fiddly the thing was and you really had to be precise with your placement of your fingers. I'd hate to muck around with it on the road as he had enough trouble (I thought) with it sitting still without adding bumps etc as you'd be driving. Thats where my interest stopped.

i noticed that it was fiddly aswell, but also comes with a remote which would be ok. There was a good price on it today at JB $525 i think.

I think a lot of companies put heaps of effort into making products that appeal to buyers while they are on the shelf, but these features in real life are useless. My Alpine has more features than I would use anyway but the ones I do use are great. SQ IS impressive

Hey mate, in answer to your Second ques.
If your thinking about SQ - without spending loads of $$$$$
I helped a friend install some gear we got from Autobarn.
HSK165 (6/12 splits) a Clarion APX400.4 (4ch amp) and a HERTZ high energy 10" SUb (Hx250) in ported box.
Also, if you do go and see some hertz gear at a Autobarn the box part number was UB10s, surprisingly enough the port in the box was close enough to the hertz T/S parameters so we didnt even adjust the port.
It sounded sweet as, going low wasnt a problem due to the port, but even still Techno didnt have any lagg.
The splits were about 329 (also I saw a set of hertz 3 way splits for 319) the amp was 399 and the sub was 239, it was reasonably priced for what it sounded like.
Hope this helps.
