Yeah, cheap and nasty but I have a feeling the stock headunit makes them sound worse.

Good thought. They only said 7W and I reckon that's max. I've now got 200W max, (50W RMS).

15W MAX. They sound like complete shit too.
My amp is in for repair at the moment, so now I have no (aftermarket) splits up front, nor sub working - and have been forced to "enable" the stock 6x9's speakers off the HU, just so I can listen to the radio now. It sounds soooooooooooo shit :( So pov I don't even bother with CDs/MP3s atm lol

according to the laws of physics, the equation for speaker power conversion is:
Power RMS = (Peak Power) / (√2)

Just think of RMS power as basically being average continuous power.

do the covers on the back speakers pop off or screw off?also, what are the dimentions of the front speakers? might sound stupid, but i went to get the right replacements

I know the rear 6x9's are 15w. Not sure about the fronts as I havent replaced them yet :)

TE+ there are three 10mm nuts in the boot that unscrew and allow the grill to be removed... one of the corners has a spring loaded tab that slides under the back decking board... just go carfully and they come off easy.
I just replaced my rear ones with some Sony xplods 6x9.... cannt use sony grills but thats ok since noone can see them in there they wont try and get them :D..... (Not that youd bother for a pair od Sonys anyway!)

I have Alpine 6.5' in the front and 6x9's in the back. They don't have their covers on either. Don't know if they would have fit anyway.
I've got Pioneer 6x9's in the back and even without the covers the tweeters in the centre are a fraction high and cause one corner of the cover to not sit down flush.

You are kidding right?
There is like 1" from my speakers to the mesh......
have you put in spacers or something?
That is very strange.
Anyway... I would have thought that for most TE+ cars the rear 6x9 location will allow you to install any 6x9 but using the orig grill.

according to the laws of physics, the equation for speaker power conversion is:
Power RMS = (Peak Power) / (√2)
is that supposed to be the max power divided by the square root of two coz if it is that doesnt work at all. using that something with max power of 200w(example already given) would have an rms rating of 141w. thats not right coz its only 50. where did you get that equation from?

just going back to the grille not sitting right on pioneers, I got me a pair of pioneer 220 watt 6x9" 3 ways and I've got the same problem. so I just leave the grilles off
I love my pioneer 9450MP head unit :p
speaking of 9450MP/9350MP's, has anyone else out there got one, and if so, have they made any cool mitsubishi graphics and/or movies to upload to the head unit? I'm gonna get my bro to whip up an animated bg with the VR-X logo on. should look pretty cool at night.

To work out RMS (Root Mean Square) power...it's the square root of the mean averages of power squared.
The problem with rating speaker RMS power (and the same goes for RMS power of amps) is that it's meant to be the "continous average power" over a period of time.
Peak power is the instaneous amount of power that an amp can produce/speaker can handle for a short period of time. RMS power is pretty much what the average continuous power should be over a longer period of time.
ie; The peak power might happen for 5 secs. during a 4 min. song. The RMS power should work out to be what the average amount of power should be for the whole 4 mins.

I think the PMPO rating is more a problem than the RMS...
PMPO is, as you said, the peak power. And cheap and nasty stereos, speakers use this rating as a marketing tool to fool you into thinking that you're getting a 300w speaker when in fact it can only handle that for probably a few seconds then it will die.
RMS is by far the best way to shop!
