View Full Version : gen1 automatic ecus
out of curiosity, does a gen1 automatic have anything learning thing in it? or is it just an automatic? (eg. does it know your driving it hard and holds out it's gears?)
sometimes i think it does, then sometimes it doesn't know what gear to select and slips... the transmission is reconditioned and the TPS is set right.
it doesn't fuss me much but if it does learn, would resetting it make it relearn?
considering my TM auto was the first lot of computer controlled transmissions and probably had glitches that were fixed in revisions of the automatic (eg. the TP has that power/econ button), i think it still kicks the crap out of the holden trimatics for smoothness and probably performance

Im not sure if they learn or not.......but my 1st - 2nd change kicks in real hard and 2nd - 3rd is real slow, as in drops 2nd....... rev's 500rpm higher .......then into 3rd, take's about 3secs sometimes more to do the change
im going to try reset the ecu

nah they dont learn, 3rd gens do. 1st gen magnas have a fixed shift pattern and isnt very flexible, oh and i agree sometimes your driving and it doesnt know whats best 3rd or 2nd yeh not much you can do

1st gen autos are fixed... heck, they are a 1986 design - what dya expect when one's desktop superpower was Intel 8086 16MHz?? lol lol lol
But it should still shift smoothly and not clunk. All shifts should be quite equal in timing... if not your shift bands are out of whack - a pro service is recommended.

Shifting has a lot to do with the TPS which of course is also affected by the idle speed , worth having a play with it if you're getting some rough downshifts or it is slow to kick down.

what do you want the injectors for ??
i don't get wolf ecu's to cheap at all, mainly deal in genunine ones althrough have a very good link to chip torque
Gen 1 magnas with auto had to use specific mitsubishi ATF it is a well documentrd fact that normal ATF eg, dexron lacked the properties of the Factory ATF and gave extremely indecisive shifting. if i remember correctly Castrol developed the factory ATF.
