this is my mums car .. bust she plans to get something smaller .. so, being a keen 17yo .. i offered to buy it for her for the 'trade-in' price (which we agreed on to be about $2000-2500)

its a 1993 TR GLX 2.6 (not the 2.6i :( ) ... but still .. with only 130'000k on the clock .. i cant complain

just asking if it is a worthy purchase, i dont really see the point of 'modding' and upgrading the car ... hasnt quite the 'go' to make modify it, though ... if money persits ... i may do the odd cheap thingo or two :D

Welcome to AussieMagna :D

Jeez it looks neat for that price to me.... ok it's a 2.6 but i doubt you will find too many bodies that straight and paint in such good nick.... and at least you know the previous owner lol

I think it is a very good buy

Welcome Aboard..

yeah as above, the paint and panel looks quite decent. If it runs ok mechanically then its a goer.
You might want to think about a K and N Air filter to help improve fuel economy and give it a bit of go. These are about 100bucks. But worth it..
Overall a nice car and worth it.
I have a TR and i wish mine was that straight and clean!!!
hehe

Pics arn't working for me but...
With such low km's its a good deal. Only problem is it is a carby and they're not as quick as the EFI models. If you dont mind a slow car than go for it, the car itself is probably worth about or just over $3k, so any cheaper would be a steal. Just remember there is not alot of mods you can do the carby model, i dont even know if you can get K&N carby air filters?

Also...

where would be a good place to get a KnN filter for TR EFI.. by any chance?

thnx for the replies people, really appreciated

another question: i'm a complete newbie when it comes to cars, so is there a possibility to somehow convert the carby into EFI, or would that require a complete engine conversion ?

i dont mind the car being a little slow, its good for the time being (first car) so i dont do anything stupid, but maybe 6-12 months down the track

It's possible, whether it's worth it or not i dont know, i think you have to replace everything but the block, so you're probably looking at close to $1000.

The second gens, fuel injection conversion isn't viable. There's too much wiring that also needs changing.

proberly could pick up at 5speed 2.6 or 5litre for that price if you shopped around, just might need a bit of work ... efi too

The efi harness runs through the engine bay, it joins up with the engine harness near the battery, also runs behind the heater box to the drivers side above the fuse box, not that hard if you get the right bits, and with a care this clean and straight may not be such a worthless idea

if its your mums car, then you would have the best idea out of any of us what sort of condition its in, the history etc. 2 grand sounds reasonable. I wouldnt be complaining providing it was in reasonably good nick

Yeh $2k its a great deal for a first car! I deliberately bought a 4 banger as my first car so i couldn't be a hoon (although i learnt to drive mine like one anyway :P). But really its a great learning car to be in, and will be very reliable while you are saving up for a newer/better car in the meantime. My advice is buy it, look after it for a year or 2 whilst saving for a new car and you'll be laughing.
