Hey people,
I have just purchased a k&n Pod filter for my car its is a 1992 tr 4 cyl! I have gained a **** load of power out of this 1 cheap mod and iam happy with the performance, the only thing is iam going through a fuel tank of fuel evry 2 days is this normal or is this a futher problem with air to fuel mix?
any help on the issue would be great! thanx again for all the help peoples
How many k's do you do in a couple of days?

well seeming asu went thru a full tank in 4 days and now its doubled ur fuel consumption which i would say isnt normal
take off pod and put back on stock airbox see how it goes

Have your driving habits changed to coincide with the new mod?? ie: heavier right foot to go with the extra power?
Could be something to do with air/fuel ratios. Look for signs of running rich like black smoke from exhaust under heavy acceleration and load, smell of petrol while idling etc.
And yeah - what THUGDOUT said - put you paper panel back on and see if it goes back to normal?
There's been a hell of alot of discussion on here about the +'s/-'s of K&N filters, both pod and panel, but I've never heard anyone claim to have had their fuel consumption double. So I'd say it isn't normal.

i think it might be something to do with the old 4cylinders. every time i do a proper mod my fuel consumption increases drastically. i used to get 10.5 L/100kms but with full exhaust system im getting about 13L/100kms. Was going to look at other mods but now im thinking maybe i should have a look at a mod which will improve fuel consumption maybe. eg unichip to remap fuel/air mixtures or one of those fitch fuel catalysts which someone here just got. sorry to whoever it is i cant remember.

Funny you should mention mods and fuel consumption. The week after each mod my fuel consumption was terrible, but i blame that on me driving like a maniac to test the new mod :P. Now with all the mods i've seen a big decrease i fuel consumption, i just got 450km off 50 litres of SAFEWAY REGULAR UNLEADED!!! I was surprised myself. Filled up on shell regular tonight so it'd be interesting to see what i get off that. And this is all short trip driving, when i start going to tafe again next monday i predict about 600-650km a tank freeway driving :D.

pods dont increase power, your std element must have been pretty old and clogged.. and you may have bumped a sensor into working again

a new filter isnt going to increase your air flow by THAT much, id say 8-10% better than the stock ones? if that??
Ive got a KnN panel, im sure the cars breathing easier but i havent found a dramatic increase in power or fuel consumption.. Ive got the same car as you and TR-ENV
the only way your gonna lose half of your consumption is if the car is boosted. not a filter mod or even cai.
But do tell us what ur tripometer says! :)

I think with CIA a pod filter would work better, otherwise its just a hotbox

leave the std air box in, its quiet, its free and no matter what anyone says, its efficient. replace the piping if you must

I have to be in total agreeance, the std filter is not so bad and atleset it takes the air from the front and not the hot engine bay.

if you want the sound then its alright to do, but dont expect performance and im certainly not going to stop others who are doing it for the sound alone :D
