this sound right?
if so are they compatible with any car and has anyone seen it done?
and no he wasnt having me on. he used to work in places mandrel bending mufflers and has a bit of knowledge about cars... so yeah...

any light to be shed?

Have only heard of lowering blocks for leaf spring set ups. The idea being you place the block between the spring and the diff, raising the diff up into the "tub" and hence lowering the body.
Am also pretty sure they are illegal.

you can get things called spring clamps, you basically out it on the spring and tighten the bolts accordingly and it compresses the spring, but once again....illegal

That sounds really scary!

Spring clamps wont work on Magna's anyway.

Spring Clamps, Lowering Blocks (leaf spring only) are all dangerous and illegal.

Your best bet is a set of Kings, they are about $95 per end, if these are not low enough, het them compressed at a springworks

Spring clamps... aren't they tools to remove/replace the springs with?? :D

Cheapest lowering hack is to fire up the oxyace and heat the springs till red
whilst on the car and they'll lose their temper and drop.

But you'll probably set something on fire at the same time eg. underbody coating. :doubt:

Was that a suggestion or a joke? If not a joke, how on earth would you balance it and what does that do for the overall strength of the springs? Not knocking you, but that doesn't sound safe at all to me.

ive seen it done on a fair few cars, if its not low enough, heat it a little more. it only goes down really slowly

considering lowering the car with just spings is dodgy enough, ide hate to see it with just cut or sagged springs

It is not safe as the material is compromised from this method. Have seen this done many a time and many a spring snapped.

Have done it my self for a paddock basher, but would not dream of doing this for a street car in a pink fit

yep I wouldn't do it on any car I'd drive either, or by anybody I cared about.

Springs & shocks are tuned to work in unison, if you get spring rates & damping wrong
you can really screw up the amount of road grip you have available = dangerous.
Don't touch it unless you know what you're doing, or leave it to the pros.

Spring clamps fit onto the spring and pull 2 coils together while spring compressors are used to remove springs.

thats why lowering with just springs is pretty shoddy. in most cases it doesn't help handling at all, just the body roll is less.

it will help handling if body roll is a problem. on a smooth road having stiff suspension will give you the best handling, however try to take a rough corner with reall stiff suspension and u'll find yourself on the otherside of the road, or up the gutter.
