Greetings All.
Im only new to the car audio scene...BUT, i have been swaying from brand to brand, unsure of what to settle on...4 UR Info, I own a 1997 TF Magna...(for those that havent read my profile :P )
My current setup is:
HEAD UNIT
I got a Pioneer DEH-4650MP for my 18th about 7 months ago
FRONT STAGE
I just picked up a set of 2-way JL Audio TR 600-CXi on saturday (yet to be installed)
REAR FILL
Stock Eurovox 6x9's rated at 15w...(yay..? lol)
SUBWOOFER
None...yet...
AMPS
None...yet...
SOUND DEADENING
None...yet...
AMP CABLING
None...yet...
Now i have been thinking of various brands of subwoofer, amplifyer, sound deadening and cabling to use...but i cant settle on a desision...i like ot listen to bassy music, I also want to have quality sound, but of a weekend i want to be able to open my boot for a lot of doof doof! In terms of money i want to pay up to a maximum of around $300 for the sub (im aiming for 12" or a REALLY good 10") or around $150-$175 each (for two 12's)... Amplifyer im only really willing to pay along the lines of $500-$700 (although i will buy a cheap a$$ 1000w boss amp for the moment...), The rear 6x9's im not entirely sure...im thinking of upgrading them to something that can take more power...but then again, being rear-fill, they wont be very loud...
Can anyone recommend brands and places/people i have to contact to buy them??
Also, what sort/brand of sound deadening should I buy for my doors and boot??? (I was looking at some Stinger road kill fromt JB-hi fi, not sure if it was extream or not...)
In the sub department im not sure if i should go a 12" hertz or something nice...or a 10" infinity kappa perfect...:doubt:
Cheers,

You want Stinger Expert Roadkill... I got that... Or G-Spot Serenity max etc etc...
Deadening can wait. Makes you appreciate it more when you get it. ;)
Much of a muchness really. Judge by how solid the rolls are, you should be able to bash ur self over the head and get a headache...
Anything is better than nothing. Just dont go flashtac cos its not worth it in the longrun.
Cabling any 4 gauge. Bigger if you plan on upgrading (Cos ul feel the pain ripping it all out again). Fuse near the battery too.
Rears... Leave them alone... I dont use mine at all and i have aftermarket. They are a waste of money. Take them out and let the bass come through...
Unless you have rear passengers and the subs are drowning out everything else, your money would be better invested in front speakers or an amp for your fronts.
Amps... Id go a 4 channel. gives you more options for upgrading and the ability to run a sub off 3 and 4 and fronts off 1 and 2.
Fronts will sound awesome through an amp compared to headunit.
Are you gonna do the handyman work yourself?
Peace
Tim

Ah k 4 gauge for amps.
Buy a second hand amp off CAA, dont pay retail, really not worth it. Spend about 250 and that shuold get you a nice 4x60w rms something....
I recommend the old Alpine V12's. Very underrated amps
make sure it's the expert roadkill, I've never used any of their other stuff. $80 is cheap, I paid ~$140 for a two door pack.
K you should like the Jl's they're a nice sounding system, but I've never heard them in a car, only on boards.
Takes time to find good cheap stuff but it is out there. Keep an eye out on Car audio australia forums.
And im so busy I can't even do my own car let alone others keke...
Just messin, Here to help.
peace

Hey mate,
Just some other help, a good amp that isnt that expensive I would recommend would be a
US Audio 5 channel these offer 55wrms for your front and rears and 220 -300 wrms for a single sub.
These normally go for around $429 from autobarn.
And as for a 12' sub I would go a HERTZ es300 which you can pick up for $189.
If you have any change leftover BUY SOME REARS, leaving them out only hurts your Imaging as well as your Audible range.
Putting say a set mid-level 6x9s to accompany the rest of your system, ran at the lowest possible frequency with the HIGH pass filter on will give you the extra range between your front stage to your 12" woofer. A good set would be Hertz ecx690's for 189 or a Pioneer tsa-6970's for 199. Hopefully this will help.
hertz aren't too bad, focal are good and momo-polk. I havent heard diamon audio subs, i think they're ok too. IDMAXs are well known for SQ. Can't go wrong with Phoenix gold subs...esp the xenons and titaniums...mmm....
Or u could do what I did and attempt to throw a 15" DD sub into a ported box and hope for the best SQ. I haven't powered mine up at all yet :doubt:
Seriously...don't get neons!! LOL, I got like, 6 tubes or something, and I'm soooooo over them now. They were cool for a month or two but after that I wished I never brought them. spend neons money on a P.I.M.P battery terminal or something lol

Rears aren't good for imaging. One main aim of an sq system is to reproduce the soundstage across your dash. You do not need rear speakers, your ears point forward. Rears will drag your soundstage backwards which will always have adverse effects.
They are good for more volume out of your system, but most aftermarket speakers can easily reach painful limits. They can also be good to add a bit more fullness to the sounds, but this should be at very low levels compared to your fronts, and can be run in mono as well to avoid any conflicts with your front stage.
In an sq sytem you should aim for good stereo reproduction, the best way to do this is by having only two sources of sound, left and right, which should be as far forward and as far away from the listener as possible.
Sub bass should be low enough for it's location to be undetectable as it's frequency is below the point where it becomes directional. It is also important to deaden your boot to stop resonance and rattles which can also reveal the subs location and drag the soundstage backwards.
In this way the directional frequencies from your front drivers will cause the sub bass to appear as if it is coming from your front speakers. Your fronts should blend into this as well by playing as low as possible.
I've only heard your JL's on walls in shops, But they pack a fair bit of punch and seemed very clear. Good value for money imo.
But any money spent on rears could be better invested elsewhere. Rear speakers are designed to utilise the boot cavity to provide bass as the stock front speakers and small door cavities cannot achieve this. Once you have a sub in, they serve little purpose. (except when you have rear passengers, or 5.1 setups ;))
