My car sounds like the tyres are screeching around corners and back in an old thread someone mentioned the power steering fluid, well i decided to finally check it today and it was bone dry. So topped it up and now the noise has completely dissapeared. So i thought that if anyone else has this problem, maybe they could try checking the fluid and then topping it up :).

A while back i had a power steering hose crack on me, poured out all the fluid and i had no power steering for a couple of days...

It was a bi*ch to drive lol

If the power steering fluid or whole thing dies, we dont lose steering do we? it just steers like a non - powersteering car? cuz after re-filling the steering feels lighter, i keep over correcting lol

no, you dont lose steering completely. Its just Alot harder to turn. And no 3 point turns in a narrow street at all, wont make it without ripping your arms off.

And No its Not like a car without power steering fitted. Its about 5 times worse than that.

if ur resovoir was completey empty then that would propably indicate a leak some where u should never have to fill it up that much,

im guessing ur steering rack boots will be full or maybe hose or something, just keep an eye on it

You got it iin one, avoid this problem if at all possibe. or unless your some kind of superman. Because I struggled to get my car out of my driveway, let alone the drive to the mitsu dealer to get it fixed.

is it actually bad for your car to be forcing the steering wheel around when u try and drive it? what about when u don't start the car and try and turn it (key turned, so wheel doesn't lock) same idea?

Im not 100% sure of the damages, I was told that it shouldnt cause any majour problems. Ive never had any problems since..

With trying to turn the wheel while the engone is off, i dont see the harm in it. You wouldnt get far cause they only way to turn is if the car is in motion. Ive never heard of it bieng bad for the car.

I thought your giving power to the power steering with the key turned anyway?

But anyway i'll see how the fluid goes over the next couple of days.
