Hi, my 96 3.0 started roughly today, got 100mts and died!!
It has plenty of fuel, turns over freely, can't find any fuses blown, just won't start.
Any ideas?

what the starter motor turns but there is no fuel getting pumped through?

Yeah that could be it, or something electrical. Do these v6's have a fuel pump you can hear buzz when you turn it on? My wifey drives it 90% of the time so I'm not familiar with it's workings.

Ok, get someone to turn on the key while you hold the fuel line, you should feel a pulse if there is pressure.

If you know what you are doing you can remove the return line, get the key switched on and the fuel should flow, just do not burn down the car. Keep in mind also that the fuel will onyl flow for a second or 2.

Next thing is to check for injector pulse, get a screw driver, have the engine cranked and place the metal end on the injector and the handle against your ear, you should hear the injector clicking.

What you need to remember is to get an injector pulse you also have to have an ignition pulse, if say the crank angle sensor has died then this will stop the car.

Judging by the rough running in the morning it does direct to a fuel problem however do not stop here if you are able to confirm the fuel system is ok.

Check the fuel pump which can be accessed by removing the rear seat.

But, i have heard of this happening before and it was the battery.

OK this is what I've found, I removed the fuel line that is connected to the front bank of injectors- I think it may be a return line- anyway if I crank it over there is fuel pumping out of the end of the injector bar or whatever that thing the injectors hang off, so I don't think it's fuel, then I got a sparkplug boot, stuck a screwdriver up in it cranked it over and earthed it out, there was spark arcing off the screwdriver.
Does this model have an engine immobaliser?
How can I check the crank angle sensor if at all?

Also battery is fine.

A mechanic gave me a thingy to test how strong the spark is, he said I was very brave to stick a screwdriver up the lead and test it, it should throw a spark 3-4" and I could only get a tiny one, anyway it looks like something electrical, perhaps distributer related- crank angle sensor or similar.
I'm gunna have to get it to the egg spurts, I'll let you know how it turns out.

just wondering, dont you have nrma or something and get them to diagnose the prob first?

How's your timing belt? Running badly - may have slipped a couple of teeth as it broke, leaving you with no valves to get it running. Just read about it on the ClubVR4 forums for one of the guys there.

Just to let you's know my fault was crank angle sensor and coil, both of which are located under and part of the distributer. Individual parts was going to be about $1200 but got an exchange dizzy from Petroject for $319 including a new cap and rotor, cost me $815 all up for labour, parts, testing.

what colour is the spark if its blue nothings wrong there if its orange then there could b a prob 3-4 inches dont think so a spark will only arc a short distance and its not the length its the colour and intensity that matters. an electronic ignition system will give off around 25000 volts dependant on what kind and of course the coil. can u get it to rev and if so what do u hear at high revs is it breaking down or is it smooth check you injectors by checking the plugs are the fueled up or fuel less?

hey woc i'm currently getting my car fixed up. Has similar probs to what you are saying. It runs fine at idle then when you accelerate it gets rough as. Had a friend look at it and came up to be the TPS and possibly the fuel pump. They will know by tomorrow morn. But i will get him to check out the injectors as for the rest i bought new dissi cap rotor leads and plugs.

WOuld have been the ignition module and coil as the crank angle sensor is inder the timing cover at the crank. If this was faulty you would get no spark at all.

Good to hear it is going again mate.

Sounds like a good excuse to me to buy a new car...Hoorah.. :dancin: :dancin:
