G'day peoples
I was chasing some advice on a subby to pick for my stereo, I'm not after anything ridiculous just something to fill in the bottom end and cover road noise etc, I listen to metal mostly and a big subby+ double kicking from my experience in friends cars ends up with you getting a sore head :P
What I have so far is as follows
HU - Alpine CDA-9835
Fronts - Clarion SRS 1684 50wrms splits
Rears - Pioneer TS-A6995 80wrms 6x9's
Amp - Jaycar Response 4x100 rms amp
And all my wiring is jaycar, with circuit breakers.
I also have a fairly good 10" box so a 10" would be preferred, but re-using that is not necessary. I'm lookin to spend around 300.
Cheers

A nice 10" will be sweet in a sealed box. Bridge channel 3 and 4 of ur 4 channel to run the sub (low pass) channel 1 and 2 to run your front splits, (high passed)
Many options with subs, do you want to buy new? or second hand?
Best bet is to go to a few stores and get them to play a lot of 10" subs through a similar amp to yours. With the same amp playing flick between subs keeping the volume the same and grab one that takes your fancy.
Usually make the box to suit the sub, but u should be able to re use the same box if it's in good nick. Ensure the box is sealed, After you install the sub you should be able to push the cone in and feel a tight vacuum, it should not feel like air is leaking out of it.
Peace
Tim

S_tim_ulate - I'm not fussed if it's new or second hand, both my sets of speakers are second hand, just so long as I know someone hasn't been ruining the subby with too much or not nuff juice :P
Fhrx - Are these brands in my league ? what I mean by that is would these subs be overkill for my other gear, theres a couple of them that are over 400wrms :noway: I think I'd be doing them an injustice with my amp. But I am interested in the vibe subs, not too over the top, clean looking, good sensitivity if the figure is accurate, but I'm struggling to see a 10" reaching 20hz without a perfect enclosure.

P.s - Do you ship ? :)

Re xxx 10" will get down that low, they go lower than their 12". But may be a bit pricey.

Pricey and power hungry :P 1000wrms or summin like that, nah i meant the 10" vibes getting down to 20 as there the smaller version of vibes subs.

Alphines go hard and arnt to pricey
Nor are Alpines anywhere near the quality of RE subwoofers either.
Matthius, we support the Magna forums all the time offering its members ridiculous prices for equipment. That is why I tend to suggest one or two ranges above the listed budget; because I can bring prices down to match. I would rather you have a fantasic system than make a quick buck so therefore I offer the best I possibly can.

I haven't bothered to read all the other replies so this might have been said already. I think the best way to go is, have a listen to as many different brands as possible. With the lower price range most subs' preformance are the same. There are two things I will suggest though, having had a fair bit of experience in audio, I would suggest if you listen to metal, then you are better off going with a 10" for sure. Purely because of the different type of thud you will be looking for out of your sub. A 10" will give a tighter, punchier thud, where as a 12" will give you that more deeper, techno sort of bass you would have heard in a nightclub.
And make sure you take a cd of your preferred music with you to play through the sub, afterall, in the end your gonna be stuck with it and most guys who sell the gear these days couldn't give a toss about you!
