i just purchased 2 6 1/2" low range woofers for my split system over the internet.(risky i know but got them cheap) Only problem though is that i just got them and the info on the back(no info sheet, again i know im an idiot!) says that they are rated 300w max at 6 ohms. Now i know most car audio systems run at 4 ohms and all your home theatre stuff is 8 ohms but ive never heard of any speakers being 6 ohms. how will this effect my options and how i can run them? any one know about this?

6ohm is a bit weird, i have seen it in home audio but not in car audio (except for some subs) but you will be able to run them off a standard car audio amp. Amps can run at higher than their rated impedence (ohms) but they make less power, eg. a 2x100W @ 4ohm amp may only make 2x75W when running at 6ohms.

Your amps will drive 6 ohms no worries...it'll just be putting out less power to them (~25-30% less than if it was driving 4 ohm speakers)!

the amps would like them as they are not driven as hard and i pretty sure its for better sq the higher ohm..... the lower the ohms the higher the thd
but theres alot of other factors too which have to be taken int account for sq thegreatest of all is the installation

cool, thanks guys. that helps to know they will still run and im not really worried about loss in power if it means better sound but will i still be able to run them through a crossover rated at 4 ohms where the other speakers are 4 ohms too?
