hi guys. i went out to start my TJ this morning and it briefly started and then turned off. I tried to start it again and it would crank over a little like a flat battery. Then i put the charger on for a minute then it started. I'm thinking my battery bust be on it's way out but it gave no signs of wearing out before this. On the dash a 5 came up i am assuming this was a fault code and i was wondering if anyone knew what it was????

Once it started it should have really kept going  ... do you have a problem with cold starts normally? Check the fluid levels in the cells to make sure they are above the battery cells, If you can give it a long run do so. Problem with batteries is that they pack up on you at the worst possible time usually... how old is the battery? Sometimes for the piece of mind it is better to change it over if you are not sure.
Apart from that all I can think of immediately is a fuel sending problem... so is it running now or not ok after the charge?

Shane, the "5", did it show up on the LCD Odometer? If it did that means "S" for Sedan not 5. You will need to setup your Trip Computer due to the battery running flat. That is all.
When you start up it will show "S". Press the Mode button for 2 secs. It should then show "3.5" so again press the Mode button for 2 secs. It should be totally operational again.
I would have your battery and alternator checked out pronto.

Ah that makes a lot of sense now i did push the mode button for 2 secs a couple of times trying to get the display up again but i can't remember whether i set it to 3.5 or 3.0 because i didn't realise what i was doing i guess i''l just have to pop the terminal off the battery for a sec to start the procedure again.
After i put the charger on i put it on high charge and it started and seems to be running fine now. The battery is the original mits one so i guess its about 2 yr old so thats not a spectacular lifespan but it's ok, all the electrolyte levels are fine. i'll see how it goes this weekend and i'll go from there.
thanks guys
