View Full Version : Wheel tramp. (or what ever its called)
How the hell do I stop the wheels from bouncing if I drop the clutch??? Different tryes, wheels?????
stop dropping the clutch?
i assume your car has stock suspension......stiffer springs, better shocks all help......but the simple answer is cars werent built to do burnouts. especially FWD family sedans.

amen.....
it simply cant spin the wheels fast enough to overcome the grip, slip, grip, slip that is happening.

I get it a little in the wet in fifth gear ;)
I think stiffer everything, engine mounts, suspension etc helps.

I done a nice long wheel spin the other day. Just the left front was spinning and went some 50mtrs before i'd had enough. My mate who was watching said it left a huge cloud of smoke behind. For those in SA - a nice long black mark opposite the Marion hotel (outside hairdressers, pizza shop etc). Went from these shops past the BP servo. Too bad about the $290.00 tyre.... Oh, no Axle tramp either.

Enough said - Of course your not going to get axle tramp when you've spent a few hundred dollars on suspension mods that are designed to specifically eliminate axle tramp & torque steer.
You could also upgrade your engine/transmission mounts & suspension bushes with aftermarket "poly" replacements which will help also as they wont flex as much as the standard rubber ones!

Yes axle tramp is in the middle of not enough power and to much...
If you had less it would do it and if you had more it would do it either...

LMAO me and my bro drove down to the bank ( He is on his Learners) and we were at the lights. When the lights turned green, he accidently done a wicked burnout and no axle tramp. He must have done it perfect lol.
This is in my TN :D

I am currently working with Mitsubishi to find out why my KJ2 axle tramps even in the wet with the TC on or off. It does it even on the while lines so its not a traction issue. The noise it makes is seriously not good. It bangs the front left so much the glove box sometimes opens. Mits denided there was anything wrong and said it was due to how it was driven. I Forced the senior mechanic at chaddy to come for a drive last Tues when it was wet and i got him to spin the wheels off the line in the wet with Traction off and on and he was very shocked at what it did.
He immediately put it up on the hoist to have a look but couldnt find anything wrong. Its booked in for tomorrow again for a more thorough look. Time to start changing diffs and trannies i think. At least they recognise the problem now.
I also have a KH and i can tramp that in the wet and it is as smooth as ever. Can barely feel the traction kicking in.
Will let you know how it goes.

Hey family wagon, i know you said you already had it checked on a hoist but make sure you check the engine mounts. My old galant did the same thing, harsh banging you could feel right through the garbox when you took off fast (any sort of burnout just made you cringe at the noise it made). Ended up being totally broken rear engine mount.
