View Full Version : Lost illumination

TM Elite '86.
The only lit instruments either day or night are the Voltage & Oil pressure, the instrument still work & can be see with light on them sun by day intermittant torch by night.
Any clues please, Globes, Dirty connectors etc. I think i can get the inst' cluster out ok.

Ps: i've had this car almost 12mth & the odometer has never been illuminated, then the clock went & it progressed from there.

i would say globes but being elite maybe its the instruments themselves that are going i will consult my dashes i have and see what i can come up with

I'll place money on it being various globes blown.

The instruments are still working, but with no lighting to make them visable.

There's a backlighting globe, and another globe that provides the lighting for the LCD. They've probably had it.

If the frontlight globes go, you do have difficulty reading the instruments, if the lighting is no good.

my cluster also playing up started with the oil pressure then odometer n clock lost lighting but are still working........ill fix it wen the speedo stuff up hehehe.........anyone fixed it... any tips on removing the dash console anything which may casuse difficulty????

On the warning lights, there's two "vents" at each end. Gently pry them off (Careful, they're ****ing brittle!)

Remove the two screws underneath, then remove the cluster housing.

Remove the 4 screws exposed, and then the dash. Then, check, and change globes that are gone.

Replacing 6 globes solved the problem,

I cant get them out without breaking them... :doubt:

A flat blade screw driver in the vent slot with gentle lever pressure & mine popped out nicely.
Had trouble getting globes though, then i founf i had 7 saved from something else.
