View Full Version : throttle body/carb coolant bypass...

has anyone done this on a 1st gen or to any other car? i mean its not hard, but for you that dont know it involves removing and the hoses going to and from the intake manifold and carb/throttle body and plugging them, and the hoses left over being looped back into the cooling system. i havent heard anything bad about this and it has been shown on a dyno to gain some 2-3 HP due to cooler air pretty good for a basic mod.
the only downside is which i can see is in cooler mths (on a carby) the choke will take longer to open as the carby/intake manfold will take longer too warm up.
any one had a play with this concept?
I think tm-se-red may have disconected the water when he put the xf carb on his car....

yeah wen we put the XF carb on there are no inlets/outlets for coolant like the stock magna carb. we just plugged the ones up on the intake manifold with bolts lol
its pretty easy. wat exactly did ya wanna know about it? just if anyone had done it?

wtf i SWEAR i wrote in this thread?
well what i said was, get a webber :P
the coolant in your carbi isn't going to effect the performance of the car, imagine how quick the air actualy passes thru the carbi, and a circle being the shape with the least amout of surface area so ur carbi would have to be 1000degrees plus to make ur intake temps 1 degree higher.
not worth the hassel and then ur engine will warm up quicker and itll wear more.

i was peakin out man
nah dont bother subby, it actualy could hurt because the choke is there to warm your car up quicker, without it u spend more time running cold
