Well, after a botched 300,000km service at Ultratune recently (one of the front oil seals was not installed correctly and dropped all the oil) I am in need of a replacement motor. Since the car is not the greatest example of a magna these days I was thinking of going down the import motor path.
Just wondering where i can get the 6G72 motor cheaply (prefer NSW) and if anyone has had experiences of this sort.
Thanks

I wouldnt bother importing a motor, unless it's the DOHC 24v 6G72. But then you HAVE to make sure you get everything with it, the ECU, wiring etc
I'm pretty sure AC Delco does remanufactured motors for the TR/TS Magnas. Would have to email them to find out...

I'm with KB, dont bother getting the standard 3L V6, get the DOHC 24 valve V6, a much better engine and heaps quicker. Could probably get the front cut for around $1000 ey KB?

does the 3L mivec not have the same block and engine mounts? Or is it a different problem?

Yeh it's their fault, lodge a complaint and you should get it all paid for!

i rang lots of places in bris today got prices...
-$1000 to $1600 for a DOHC
-$1600 to $2500 for a mivec engine....
thats no computer...
-front cut quote was $3300 for a mivec with a 5 speed triptronic (tempting, but dont have the money)
-quote for mivec conversion was $2200 (everything needed to remove a magna engine and drop in an FTO mivec)
i was also told you can put magna stuff on a pajero DOHC and it'll work..... not sure how easy it'd be but its all local but sounds n looks dodgey...
and most ppl didnt say it was a waste of money unless you bought a normal SOHC or the plane DOHC all wanted to sell me mivec...
most of them got there parts from sydney importers...
those are all supply only prices... most ppl said that they were straight drop in engines aslong as it was a 3L in there already...
but i was just seeing what id need atm... i'll save up and look into more options like seeing if dad has any import mates who could chuck one in from japan in a container cheap... but thats months away!
jsut thought id share what id gathered so far...

ahhh like killbilly said i really don't think the mivec goes into the tr/ts, think they are meant for the 3rd gen magnas coz the engine is roatated 180 degrees if you get what i mean.
We may be wrong but i would check really carefully if you want to go mivec.

A 6A12 MIVEC isnt a bolt in to a V6 TR.
A 6A12 MIVEC is a bolt in to a lancer and mirage. Neither of those engines are a bolt into the V6 TR.
The only bolt in engine you can do is the DOHC 24v 6G72 3.0l V6.
They share the same block as the SOHC 12v 6G72.
The MIVEC 3.0l is not a bolt in, and it wouldnt anywhere near a cheap transplant.

It's a DOHC 24v 6G74 3.5l V6 from the Mitsu Debonair, I didnt bother mentioning that one as you have next to no chance of finding another one.
