Hi all,

Some of you may know that i just picked up a TL Vr and i was looking at doing some audio upgrades. Currently i have an FPW 1500 15" Fusion Powerplant sub from my old lancer. But what i was wondering is, are there 6x9's (7x10's even ) that can give a really stong bass precence so as to me not needing to install the sub. If so, any suggestions. If i can sell the sub, my preferance would be DLS 7X10's for car toys.

What do you think to these? (http://www.pioneeraus.com.au/car_entertainment/proseries/tsd690r/index.html)

They will never get near a sub. Even the best 6x9's. If you are after bass response primarily, you will need a sub.

Depends what you'll be happy with. If you aren't after good bass response that thumps you in the chest and rumbles your car then go with 6x9's.

On that note the best 6x9's I've heard were also Pioneers. Bass response seems to be well ahead of others in that price range.

i doubt u'd be able to fit 7x10s as most 6x9s struggle to fit due 2 their magnet sizes. i'm actually going to cover over the 6x9 holes and just install some 5 or 6" coaxials in there instead

So maybe like a set of 6.5 coaxials and a small little 10" sub that can crank, or should i just leave the 15" and have the car virbrate to bits. Do they do this????

If you go a sub there is little need for rear fill. I'd see how the 15" goes for now, if you don't have the fronts to match it will be overpowering, but you can always trim the gains on the amp and you won't have any problems. Consider investing in some better front splits to keep up with the 15.

8" drivers up front would go very nicely if you can handle cutting up your doors.

If you plan on cranking it, you'll need some sound deadener on your boot, otherwise you'll look like a tool driving around with your bootlid rattling

:P

actually, if you want bass for your rear end. Look at getting a decent set of 6inch (round speaker)

6x9's are ****house for bass and are really only used for rear fill.

Youll never get the massive amount of base you would get from the 15.. but is it really needed?

It seems us young people have more tollerance for 'massive bass'

Keep the 15' but like everybody says get a nice set of components!

When the sub was in my lancer i ran pioneer ( bullet style ) splits, however i no longer have them. So what are some decent splits say around the 3hundrie mark.

Hertz hsk 165 ~$330
6.5" 2 piece splits.
Mids go very hard, (200-250 w rms handling) tweets can be a bit bright so are suited to kick panel mounting.

No worries, Im not sure who supply them in SA. There are a couple of autobarns in Vic that stock them maybe they can order them in for you if they don't stock them.
