Hey Hey

This being my first manual im not too sure what this noise is, when the car is cold and i change gears i get an interesting woosh noise! perhaps the clutch is worn?

How does one know when the clutch is worn?

Thoughts?

Ive had a few common***** drivers ask how much boost im running .. wheee .. if only!

Ive got the EXACT same problem with mine. Its a 2001 manual Sports. Ppl reckon it sounds kinda cool but it concerns me as to what it really is and if its doing any harm..

Anyone know what this is??!?!?

Maybe its the colour of our cars causing it! :D

pretty sure its just the noise of air or exhaust gases moving through your exhaust manifold. nothing to be worried about, sounds pretty cool. very faint BOV type noise

My 2002 man vrx dont do it.

My mates auto did when he backed off.. it was only when the AC was on..

Do you guys have the AC or climate control on at the time.....

gremlin

Nah makes no difference with AC on or off.

Its VERY noticeable when it hasnt been running for long (ie just started it hot or cold). Its nothing to do with it being hot or cold, ive found. Even when its been running then stopped and started again itll do it for a few minutes

bain, i think there was a recall on tyres that made this "chirp" - Take it to your local Mitsu Dealer - they should detune you car for you... too much factory power - was a common problem in all TJ FWD models lol

It's your accessories belts guys. Take it from a N&V guy. WSDSmurf showed me this sound on his AWD the other day, I gurantee it being the accessories belt chirping. I'm not going to explain how it does it, just think about what you are doing when you shift gears, and if you want to proof or disprove this, try changing gears when your foot planted and changing gear taking your foot off the throttle during change.

if you hear a Hiss or buzz, it's the Flex pipe, or a leak, or a crack.

My car sounds like a Pajero when I take off hard when the cars cold then pretty much instantly smooths out. (I don't do this often  ) :D

And yeah, mine makes that noise you dudes are talking about. It's like a whooshie, whirrrrring, turbo winding down after spooling up kind of noise when it shifts from 1st to 2nd. Hard to describe but I love the sound.

... its a pity it goes away after a few moments

Yes AC off.

I also get that interesting chirp noise bain, its quite an issue, will fix soon... more testing required first tho!

I have the same sound under the same conditions, but not very often, it started to do it after I fitted my CAI, before than I never noticed it.

It is most audible on my car during a hard 1st - 2nd gear change, but is sounds like a combination of intake and exhuast (slight growl as the throtle is released) noise

I have the sound between gears on my 2001 TJ VRX 5 speed man. I didn't realise how loud it was until my gf was filming the car from the street as I drove by. My GOD it sounds like a supersonic blow off valve!!!

ROCK ON! :D If i can work out how to get the vid onto the pc i'll upload it and you can hear for yourself.

i had this problem on my pulsar sss. it only started after i fitted extractors. one of the bolts between the primary pipes and secondary pipes came loose so as it flexes back i lets off a blow off sound, only when u change at high rpm. if u want to know if it is the intake, just sit in the car with the bonnet up, start it and give it a good rev quickly and u will hear a throaty sucking noise from the air filter. if you take the front of the air box off it will be a hell of a lot louder.

Don't know if anyones noticed but its nothing to do with changing gears.

Those who have this problem try giving yours a rev past 3,000rpm then backing off while its out of gear. Mine has the same noise while stationary.

Also, my Mums totally stock 2003 TJ thats done 20,000kms does the exact same thing as my 2001 TJ Sports

I thought it was just the engine note not a problem as such. I tried it on the way home last night and red lining 1st then manual shifting (it's auto) to 2nd made this cool noise. However maybe i'm thinking of a different noise but it sounds high tech-ish, kinda metallic.

Mine does it all through the rev range. Can't hear it past 3rd gear usually, but I'm assuming thats because of wind noise, road, etc.

Find out how to get your car to do it and sell the instructions to ricers

drill + airbox = cool rice sound.

I'd be leaning to believe this sound has to do with the position of the throttle, as it closes wouldnt it disturb the airflow, any other thoughts

Yeah I've got the noise too. At first my presumption was that the intake was restricted, alas it was making the "puff" noise when you let go of the throttle. I'll try and get a recording of it.
