Hi guys i decided today to take out my factory crap cake and fit an alpine unit, not sure what model, anyways i cut the wires off the plastic end and after realising it only had 4 wires and another 3 in the other side, i was confused because it had no yellow wire which is supposed to be the battery lead, i have no idea what all these wires are, yes ive read through all the posts and its all irelevant plus i cant test the wires coz i have no meter thingy, so the wires are as follows:

Black
Red with White
Black with Whte
Red

"and i figured this were the speakers or somethin, even though theres only 2 of em in the dash

Blue with Red
Green with Red
Green with White

p.s i havnt got any sort of workshop book or the original instruction manual

the HU has a Yellow, Black, and Red wires, which im not sure about, aby help would be great, cheers :)

The best way to work out what is what is use a multimeter if u have one or one of the voltage pens that light up.

Or u could just use a light bulb a 9V or 12V or less ones only to find the power and accesory and a 9V battery to test which wires go to the speakers, these are the easy est ways to do it.

thanks for that but i was hoping for an explanation  lol anyways if nobody knows what the wires are then ill go buy that pen thingy, thanks again

Well i would tell u what the wires are but i own a 3rd gen magna and i only know what colors the 3rd gens have, so sorry.

TF_Advan,

I used this wiring diagram in my 01 TJ VRX. Not sure how it will go on urs.

test ligts suck, get a multimeter, they're like, 15 bucks from supercheap.

Obviously, if u had two speakers, then the plug with the 4 wires would be speaker wires. test them out with a simple battery like TF_ADVAN said, black and red.

the other three i would imagine would be ACC, constant and ground. First test the three wires with your multimeter, find out which one is the constant(yellow), then turn your key on ACC, and the other with power would be the ACC(red).

Is it just me or does alpine reccomend u running a dedicated power line from your battery?

I would reccomend grounding to the chassis, as stock ground wires are sometimes dodgey. remember to use a ring terminal or something and sand the paint away where u wanna ground it.

have fun

Yeah eek Multimeters are better unless u cant find the one u already have.

I dunno about the dedicated power line from the battery, but then again im only half way through the instruction manual for mine.

And MASOSi i used a similar diagram for my install too.

thanks guys ill just go out and buy a mulitmeter, save myself some pain, and why cant i use the stock grounding?

btw the reply to that dude that asked if alpine recomended to run a fresh wire from the battery, the answer is no, well in my instruction book it doesnt mention it anyway, thanks again guys

yeh, its probably in the ones that do 60x4 out or whatever, i dunno. just if they say they want dedicated wire, do it

yeah, sometimes stock grounds are dodgey, and can cause problems like noise, or dodgey illumination of headunit, or whatever...its easy! just find a piece of bare metal behind the dash

LOL my head unit worked fine without a ground

I had a small prob in the begining and decided to take the ground out and guess what it still worked.

But now it is grounded pretty well.

And MASOSi i didnt have a prob i was giving advice to tictic9.

And eek like i said again ull never have my HU
Ill find out soon wether i need a direct line from the battery as it says the HU needs 14.4V
And the allowable is 11V-16V. And mine is the 60w x 4 ( 26WRMS x 4 )

Don't hook it up without a ground dude, ul fry ur rca grounds as the unit will ground itself through other means.

Ground is the most important wire there in terms of protecting your equipment.

12 V will be fine, They rate their specs at 14.4 V. But the unit should play below 12 v.

You will not need a direct line from battery. The factory power line is a direct line from the battery. (If you think about it it will do the exact thing that your lead will) Just going via the fuse box.

Factory line should work fine. Some people recommend grounding the headunit to a common point with your amps, but even this isn't necessary.

Just go with the factory power and ground to bare metal if you find the headunit ground causes problems.

Peace

fried RCA tracks...ouchy

thought the stock headunit grounded via the case or something dodgey like that. I grounded my headunit to a metal frame down deep behind the headunit and the metal centre console frames. later moved it to the steel bar the handsfree wiring plug is under the cupholders.

If i have fried the RCA's how would i know.

The only reason it didnt have ground is cause i was trying to work out if it was the ground giving me bad sound, and it didnt so it went right back in.

You'll know if you get really bad interference, when using the plugs. Or if they don't work at all.

I think it'll be fine if its not for too long, just be aware that it can cause problems. Usually a problem at higher power levels.
