I've conducted a search of the forum but couldn't find an answer to this question - What happens to the odometer reading when the computer is reset? Is it unchanged or does it go back to zero? Need to know as vehicle, a 2003 KJ Verada AWD, is still under warranty.
Would appreciate replies from those of you who have done a reset.
Thanks,
Roble
Odometer stays unchanged. It has an internal battery that keeps these readings. You'd need to fry the electrics and ECU to get it to reset.. Even then you would have to buy another ECU..

Just for interest, we also have a Mazda 6, which had to have an ECU reset a couple of months ago under warranty (the trip computer wasn't working right). Anyway, it completely reset the odometer back to zero, and at least on the Mazda 6 there's nothing you can do about it.

Must have been a faulty unit. There is no way they would all reset to zero when the ecu is reset.

Yeah, it was a pretty good way of knocking 19,000Km off the clock! All the dealer service guys did was put a small annotation in the service book to say the odo had been zero'd and handed back the keys...go figure!

I wouldn't buy one NEW either... nearly did.
Looks good at the kerb and on the showroom floor, esp the Luxury hatch.
But damned noisy (harsh + road noise + klunky) when moving.
