I can't see the point in spendin my non-existant millions on mods that don't give anything in return. Modifying the air intake does squat, making the exhaust noisy attracts the cops, and I'm already on a first name basis with the local sargeant because of my old EA with a LOUD lukey, headers don't warrant the expense, and a chip ......well.........1500$ for a couple of KW's aint smart. The guy at chiptorque told me if I have a TJ, leave it standard. Why? Because the F***ers go hard straight out of the box. And on the test drive, the saleslady got out shakin'......still has the fingerprints in the dash, poor kid. HEHEHE.
The only thing I'd like to do is re-shoe it with some 18's in a 235/40 and a new SS exhaust tip.
I want to die in my sleep like my granpa did...........not screaming like his passengers!!!

Yup i agree the best mod for a magna, is no mods. they all cost way too much for a minimal ammount of grunt... and turbo.. they say there is a limit to how much power can go through front wheels before it just gets stupid......
my magna... i will always love it.. but i love it for what it is... a family car...
and the point of this thread isnt useless..
It just portrays an opinion that i have held for years about the magna..
great car, but little potential in the engine enhancment department...
Awd is another story, along with doing suspension mods.. and brake enhancments.. all of these are valid things you could spend your cash on....... but as for making the magna go faster than it already is.. in my opinion is the biggest waste of money.....
(MY OPINION.. dont get shitty with me if you dont agree...)

I tend to agree with Magnaman and Kansai - we sometimes forget in these Forums that we're dealing with a straight family car, as well sorted as it is.
That said, having gone from an auto TH to a manual Ralliart, the difference in performance is quite startling. So, if you have the budget (ie. like Mitsu with the Ralliart who took a whole-of-car approach and spent some hefty developmental dollars and imprtantly made it all hum with the right ECU adjustments), then it is possible to extract some performance gains.
And while the Ralliart goes exceptionally well, I'm still not going to take on a Falcon XR6T or GT, much less a 911 at the lights and expect to win. Magnas just aren't those sort of cars.
Now, maybe a decent supercharged or TT AWD...

id have to agree but only to dissagree :P
when i wanted to make a show car - i wanted something that no one else had done. - magna... yep.. every man and his dog had done up their VN and VS 'doors, the EF and EA falcons were ripping up the local roads, and of course the line' were in the backstreets too.
i wanted something that would give them a good run for their money - (not $ for $ of course lol ) but something that also makes them think - first words come to mind "a magna"
my friends laughed at me when i told em i was gonna do up a magna.... now whos laughing, so far two magazines appearances and one meguires autosalon event (need to go to more events) it earns the same respect some of the top of the line' mofidied cars get.
alas - money needs to be spent :doubt:
if i wasnt here..we'd have a black (watchme) all show no go, and a silver (that company :doubt: ) all go and fu-k all show.... i tried to fill that gap and bridge the differance
then again - you've clearly stated that your not even half intrested in doing anything remotely close to what i, and some other members have done - this is the best way to keep out of trouble

Are you conversant with the fact that light in the 475nm spectrum affects cerebral dexterity?
If I had an XR6T I would spend a worthwhile 2 or 3 grand to get 300KW. But when I see people putting on CAI and loud mufflers and such, knowing that it does absolutely nothing to the performance of the vehicle, makes me think that they are rich or loopy. I on the other hand am poor and loopy.
Maybe I don't understand the passion some people feel about their cars, but would it not make sense to spend the money on something else other than something you are never gonna get your money back on. Anyway, all the best to everyone who pours money into their cars, I just can't afford it. Maybe I'm missing something. Like the guy in the Honda turbo at the bottom of the street that goes whoomp, whoomp, whoomp at 3 in the morning.

BWAHAHAHHAhahahahaha!!!! :bowrofl:
Yeah 2-3 grand and 300kW, hahahahahha ahh try maybe 5-6 grand if you want it to last.
Also CAI and Mufflers have dropped 1/4mile times on 3.0 manual by around half a second...I wouldn't call that nuthing.
But yest unfortunatlly to the little aftermarket support available for Magnas it's expensive to modify our cars without spending thousands of dollars for noticable gains. But you can spend $7600 on a sprintex supercharger kit and churn out 226kW and 422Nm of torque from a 3.5 :D

Maybe thats because most people can't rationalise spending huge ammounts of money on a familly car.
I mean if I had millions of dollars I might do it for a laugh, but I only baught a Magna to drive around till I'm 25 and insurance is cheaper on an EVO... lol

The Magna is a great family car. No need for any mods. Except maybe sound system depending on your preferences. However I do think it's got good potential with the right mods, but obviously it takes $$$.

And mate, don't they see you coming. Penalties for a sports car, penalties for under 25, penalties for under 21 and more penalties for Hire Purchase. You should be able to leave school and automatically turn 25, eh.

With the possibility of going down the direction of "Its a family car...not a race car", im not saying magnas arent great the way they are, nor am i saying that moding them is stoopid. Nor am i sayin that u are stoopid for leaving it as is...i think for the humble fam car thats a fine idea.
Having said that...Falcons & Commodores are seen as family cars are they not? Yet a little comp called V8 Supercars is a fairly popular sport from what ive seen?

That would be good, but then you miss out on a couple of years worth of making money to save for a sports car so you can acctually afford it by the time your 25.
Bad thing with me is I can easilly afford to pay off a loan to by an EVO right now, but I'm not prepared to pay for bullsh!tlly high insurance premiums as I will only settle for full comp. Ahh well only 3 years to go anyway. Till then I will be happy with the Magna as long as I get around to re-fitting my unichip to my manual Magna. But before that I want to get the clutch fitted (next week :D ), after that my list is almost complete :P (not really i still have the rest of the suspention to sort out).
On the note of wasting money on a Magna, spending $30 on a CAI setup is not really wasting money as it is noticablle on colder nights (where you tend to push the car the most). Plus it's not a waste if it brings you joy. I know I have spent about $4,000 in stuff I didn't really need, but at least it's 10 times more fun to drive now, and still puts a smile on my face each time I pushh the car now, whereas it was just scarry to do when stock.
EDIT: sh!t I just made a short reply into a book, ahh well read and suffer  )

You have hit the nail on the head. It's not a waste if it brings you joy.
This is what it's all about. Like they say....if it feels good, do it.
Phonic: Youre in for a big suprise if you think by just turning 25 will drop your premiums a huge amount on an imported turbo sports vehicle like an EVO..
Its in the same category as the WRX - STi that im looking at buying, when i heard that its going to cost over $2500 to insure i almost died.. (RACV wouldnt even look at me for insurance)
Im 26, rating 1 for life and living in 1 of the lowest crime areas here in Melbourne.
Anyhow, its nice to dream..

cos the EVO and STI car "cult" cars - the crims cant get enough of em... they are a Delicacy!
Altho the new EVO's have sat tracking, somone who' knows their **** will swipe your car, rid the goods (or whatever) before you even wake up the next day to report it stolen + get a trace on whould would be a defect sat system.

Mate that basically explains everything. If you dont get it, thats fine, ofcourse you shouldnt spend the money if your not into that kind of thing. As i always say to my gf, if you dont get it now, your never gonna get it!
As for spending money on something you will never get anything back on.. so what you'll spend your money on a new computer instead? maybe a new tv? dvd player maybe? stereo? a holiday?? all of these things you never get the money back on either! but people spend money on them because it brings them enjoyment. Now you may not get enjoyment from modifying cars, but i would say that 95% of the people on this forum do, so i cannot understand why you came on here and started this thread?!? If you dont share the passion that we share, then thats fine but do you really need to tell us all about it? i dont know about other people here but most of us get enough crap about spending money on cars from parents/girlfriends/wifes

Im glad this post went the way it went...
i think magna drivers are pretty, how would you say it... Forgiving, open minded people..
I love my car, and at the moment am contemplating getting a manual 3.5 not because i think it will be HELL faster than my 3l auto... but because i like the look of the car... and it does a bloody good job at what it is...
I lowered my car a year ago, and it made it look so much better, but as for performance.. i never touched it.. besides the Um... Brilliant.. lukey muffler (haha! it does what?)
all im saying is that this isnt a post about how bad the magna is to do up.. its a post to glorify the fact that it does a great job as it is>... haha if you understand what im saying...
when you can get to 100 in around 7ish seconds stockish.. the car def is not slow!
Did you know the new bmw 1 series (i think its the 1 series.. im probably wrong.. im kinda drunk... its the new hatchbackish kinda looking UGLY thing and the advertisment says POWER and PERFORAMance.....) gets to 100 in 12 seconds... (yawn) and you pay 3 times as much for the badge and the added luxury.... than the BIGGER... more POWERFUL... magna... oh did i mention the cars ugly....
sorry for crapping on..> im bored... but im saying.. Im over the magna as a performance car.. i dont think it will ever be something it never was planned to be... BUT what it is, it does a great job at..... :D

Man, I totally agree with you. How cool is it to have a bog stock magna, blow someone off at the lights and then grin at him like a cheshire cat at the next set of lights. My ideal car would be totally devoid of decals, window stickers, badging and ugly chromework. Nice wheels and tinted windows are all that's needed to make a magna look smick. There's a white mirage going round our neibourhood like that. Soooo cool!

Fair enough. But I do have to point out that the standard brakes on a magna are s**t out of the box. If you only ever spend money on upgrading the brakes, then it would be money well spent. The rest is pretty good as standard. :D

Thats all my car has externally, plus it's lowerd (but that also adds to the handelling). I can't stress enough how much safer (and not to mention FUN) it is to drive a Magna with better wheels/tyres, suspention (springs, shocks etc...) and upgraded brakes. :P
