If you have a magna sports, you dont need to change the whole exhaust system... just change the extractors and the rear muffler and thats your whole exhaust system done...

apparently there are still some noticeable gains achieved from a full system

i was told that even tho the origanal system is labled as a sports exhaust it is still very restrictive compared to the new system i m getting.

That's an aweful lot for the system. I hope it's stainless steel. I'd just go headers and muffler for the time being.

i have also heard that replacing the whole system yields some gains, not much, but some

I'd go the Headers, HF Cat & Muffler.

(Headers tend to be a nightmare for insurance though)

All the piping on the magnas is perfect from the factory (2.5" Mandrel Bent), so it's a waste to replace it. Just have them Cut & Weld the new components in.

dont forget, magnas have a mid mounted muffler as well, replacing this will give performance gains

From what I've heard it's a straight through resonator. Wouldn't mind checking it out properly though. After swapping my headers and cat to a highflow unit, it's generally slightly quieter when driving normally.

Unless you've got money to burn I think that $1500 is way too pricey for the gains your going to see, when compared to the stock exhaust with headers and a high flowing rear muffler. If you want to best kw's gained to dollar spent ratio, simply go for pacemaker extractors and a high flowing rear muffler with stock piping, cat and middle muffler, looking at about $750 installed, this is ample on a 6G74, and this is what will get you the bulk of the gains. Your better of spending the extra money of performance goodies else where on your car, where you can acheive better gains for the same money.

Also don't believe everything the guys at exhaust shops tell you, even if they do seem really sincere and honest, all they want is your money, you need to research this else where, here for example, and you will get predominantly un-biased opinions, and you'll end up getting the most out of your money when it comes to mods like these, but then again if your rich and dont need to worry too much about the cost of mods, then go for it.

yer $1500 mate, sounds like he's takin you for a ride...
unless your getting some g'reddy system or something.....

for what you have mentioned, if its stainless and custom, then i'd say $1500 is very good.

pacemarkers, redback system ( although press bent ) and hiflo cat, all done together, you should see some change from a grand...but that is all basic bolt on action there.

enjoy your new system..

Totally agree with SexedTF'n. You've got to seriously weigh up the likely small to very small performance gains versus the cost.

I'll quote Rod Campbell again from MMAL who developed the Ralliart Magna, when asked about the different exhaust modifications they tried when working on the Ralliart:

"At one stage we tried a straight length of pipe with no mufflers and it made no more extra power."

I'll play devil's advocate here...

Taking the stock nearly 2.5" diameter exhaust piping and replacing all the mufflers with straight sections of nearly 2.5" pipe is going to show bugger all difference vs a straight through muffler. That should be obvious since a straight through muffler is, well, straight through, and poses hardly any restrictions to flow by definition.

There's nothing in the Ralliart guy's test to prove that upgrading the whole system to something larger than nearly 2.5" won't result in gains...

Fair call. But I wonder with the same ECU, if the reduced back pressure etc wouldn't still deliver only marginally improved performance.

Don't just change your mind because of us but it's your car so do as you please. I mean, these changes to yield benefits but go to several exhaust places and find someone who's worked on Magna's before. Don't just take the first place as gospel as you may get burnt and regret it forever and not have any interest in doing more stuff.

Defnitely in my opinion. Although as Redav said it is your car. But your still better off listening to us then ANY exhaust shop. We all know our magnas, alot of us have personal experience with certain exhaust modifications, we also know how the stock exhaust is setup, and we arent trying to take your money, like any exhaust shop will, and we dont view magnas as 'its JUST a magna', we actually care and dont wanna see any one get jipped out of their hard earned dosh.
