hi dudes/girls:

I drive a TE that needs a major overhaul, however as it's my parent's car they handed it over to a family friend who happens to be a mechanic at BMW. He checked out the Magna and gave me some feedback on the items that need servicing/replacing:

1. new brake pads
2. disc brake machining (all 4 rotors are slight warped!)
3. cam/timing/fan belts needs to be replaced
4. minor engine overhaul i.e sparkies need replacing
5. hand brake cable adjustment

He said the above + labor would cost around just over the $1k mark. However I am wondering if anyone here knows what kind of $$$ Mitsubishi servicing department charges (approximate) for the above.

I just want to know if my folks are getting ripped off!

If you car is out of it's new car warranty, never go back to a dealership of any car company, there scary dodgy, the mechanics are paid by job. Meaning the more they rush the more dosh they get :/

if you dont know a decent private mechanic, then find the nearest ultratune or repco mechanic, it will be alot cheaper and the quality of work you will recieve will be a massive improvement. Sometimes you dont even get a mechanic working on your car at dealerships.. if they are running low on staff they will get accessory fitters to service your car.. not even qualified mechanics!! i know this first hand from someone who works at a mitsubishi dealership

dont be afraid of new cars mate! you dont have to get a new car serviced at a dealership! as long as your car is serviced by an authorised mechanic then your warrenty will not be voided. I bought my magna from new and it has only been back to the dealership for its 1000km service, everything else i have taken to my mechanic.
