Hi all,
Just recently bought a 1996 Executive V6 TE, and I'm just curious what the switch circled in blue does. I can't find it in the instruction manual, and when I flick it, I can hear a little engine sound which lasts for 5 seconds from the back of the car.

remove the centre console and see if you can trace the wire to see where it goes...

maybe it fires a spark plug at the end of your exhaust tip so your exhaust throws flames out the back :D
OH THAT WOULD BE SOME AWESOME!!
hehe, i have the same switch for my neons..but i didn't put my switch there...tho, damn, what a good place to put it. its not stock. its probably for neons, fog lights, or something :doubt:

It could of been hey, but I don't see my aerial going up or down, but maybe it's broken.

every time u turn it on, it operates a drill which slowly grinds into your transmission box.
Just take that gear surroud off, and see where the wires go.

DONT PRESS THAT SWITCH!!!!!
I've seen that switch before...it was on the aliens space ship. I saw it when they took me away and "adjusted" me. Dont press it, pressing it does bad things...REALLY BAD THINGS.
I'd tell you more about what it does but I'm just too traumatised by the whole thing....goddam aliens    :upyours:

On a serious note, what do you think that switch is for? Did the Aussie versions ever come with the suspension which you can adjust from touring to sport? May it's an old trunk or gas door release ?? I know the US versions have them on the driver's door, same for you guys??
I think it's the stupid comment switch, can you turn it off the forums are over flowing

OR
My GF just mentioned this one to me. Maybe its the 'going down' button. eg when you have a female passenger you give it a flick and they are compelled to 'go down' :)

it could be a kill switch for something are you able to trace the wires to see where it goes.

Possibly for aerial, the ones that can adjust to a certain height, or a stock one.
This would make sense with the buzz.
Electric petrol tank lid lock?
Airbags (Bounce)
Neons (suprised about the sound though)
Various audio applications
My money is on an electric aftermarket aerial working off a stock headunit. (If it's not a stock headunit, you should be able to bypass the switch and plug it into the electric aerial out on the headunit)
Peace

well iwfc
could this new car perhaps be a wagon and it works the rear window washer (maybe the bottle is empty therefor no water on the window) i know the factory is probably located elsewhere but maybe it was broken and rather than going to the expense of replacing the factory one(previous owner perhaps a tight ass) installed an after market one you know what i mean anyway thats my 2c worth
p.s or maybe it is for somekind of exhaust shutter to switch between noisy and stock????
alright i have said enough
bye for now

Hey guys. Thanks for the umm...interesting suggestions..lol...
Well yeah..I THINK it's for the what-was electric aerial, cause when the switch is on, and the ignition is started or turned off, the little motor runs.
Hmm..my car's a sedan, and I didn't know that it wasn't factory. It looked like a damn factory installed button but  !

Did you buy it as a private sale? If you did i would suggest going back to the ex-owner and asking about it. If not see if you can find any of their details in the log books if there are any and give them a buzz.
Good luck finding out what it is.
Nathan.

why not just follow the wires back
or try pin point where the noise is comming from
is it a straight, push on/push off button? cause it looks more like a dial one you can turn? (the dot at the top) perhaps it does both?

No I havn't. I don't exactly know how to take off the plastic to trace the wires back. Don't want to break anything or end up with bits and pieces of car. Might ask when I perform my next service.
Hmm...even if it was for the aerial, I can't really complain - the car was a bargain.
