Does anyone know if the ECU's in a Magna can be re-programmed?

A mate of mine has a chip programmer, and if I can tinker with th ECU that way, as opposed to a replacement, it would save me a wad of cash.

This is for a TJ.

The ECU's are self learning - so I have no idea if this would cause any issues with re-programming it!!

mmm.. interesting, but remember that a lot of details in the stock ECU would only be ROM (read only memory) thus, this wouldnt be able to be 'tuned'

when mitsubishi 'reprogram' their ECU's wot there doin is 'flashing' the ROM to overwrite the existing code, or infact replace a whole 'chip' that holds all the engine management system. when your car get hooked up to say, a mitsu diag machine, its not a reprogrammer, its just a diagonostics machine. it can 'read' those ROM values, but is unlikely able to write to them.

if you wanna 'tune' you ECU, dont go the way i did  go piggy back 8)

ps, i also read somewhere, where some one wannted to do wot your doin, but a special type of 'code' the mistu ECU is written in, means its 'hack' resistant.

thats why you would have a heck of a time tryin to 'crack' the code.. :S

errr.. i hope you got wot i mean :)

Just get a piggy back greddy emanage system

If you get a unichip it'll cost you 400 dollars a pop to tune it.

Get a greddy if u dont want to go all out with a haltech

For the TE-TJ Magna...no, it can't be reprogrammed. You can only use a piggy-back chip or a full replacement ECU.

a matter in fact I purchased the Greddy E-Management Computer today :D
Will be getting installed on friday next week and then tuned some time the week after, as I need to book the dyno after it has been installed.
I will be putting up all results from my car, if u want to wait until then to make a decision my results my impact on what u want to do

I wonder if you can copy the ROM... modify it then FLASH it again.
If Mitsubishi can flash your ECU then maybe you can as well.
but like a normal computer BOOT-ROM you can change details in the BIOS but they get wiped when you loose power.... You can upgrade the BIOS to include different features etc... which then can be changed.
So... I say again... why couldnt you download the complete ROM... hack into it and change the "default" values or range and then flash it back again.
